Economically speaking is a different story. With virtually no one living in Northern Canada , no infrastructures such as roads or pipelines drilling would cost a fortune to set up, then a lot of money to build means of actually getting the oil to market Oil companies are stating unless oil prices go up significantly, as big as the oil reserves are in Northern Canada, they just dont make economic sense to extract as it will be unprofitable. I find it halerious how people talk about switching to green energy to stop using oil... The halerious thing is you could go 100% green and would hardly make a difference. We hardly use any oil for electricity (exept heating oil which is used a lot in some remote areas). The fossil fuels we use for energy are mostly natural gas and coal not crude oil. People cant even get that right The only thing that might help reduce oil consumption is removal of it for transportation...46% of the worlds oil is used for transportation. Alot will still be used for making plastics, fertilizers, pesticides, beauty products, asphalt, shingles etc etc etc etc etc etc etc) We use a tone of oil or a lot of things. You wanna turn the world into solar pannels? wont fix the oil problem . You might throw a little tantrum at the natural gas and coal business tho PS: how about places were i live that have such short sunlight hours in winter and often no wind at all? were suppostu rely heavily on green energy how? And then some summers are quite wet and cloudy (depends on the year) I see nothing wrong with making some solar pannels... In fact were building many. But i think its more of an extra... Realistically i dont think we coukd really ever rely on them too heaviky cause they wouldnt be reliable... Also during summer time we often have stable high pressure systems were theres virtually no wind at all... U see wind turbines barely moving sometimes, ive seen them stopped many times with no wind The only major renewable source of energy we got it hydro electricity. But all manor waterfalls and rivers are already dammed and cant really add more... Green energy is great in concept but they arent always relibale, and in some geographical regions its hard to try to survive off them In my Province, 51% of our power is nuclear. They dont want to build more nuclear for now. They are trying to build more solar and wind but have stated to have reliable power grid they will also have to continue to add some more natural gas plants Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
