Whispering 18,865
Katy kind of did something revolutionizing, but to some people (Monsters), they are here to deny it. Like Katy made Dark Horse type of songs more common. After her hit, more people are following the pop/urban mix (no, I am not denying other artist who have done this, but Katy was really successful with it and more people are following her TREND). Oh please, the pop/rap collabs have been popular for years! Dark Horse was following a trend, not starting one! Those type of songs dominated radio around 2006 and beyond. Artists have been following the pop/urban trend for years now....LONG before Katy released her first hit and LONG before Dark Horse. Katy didn't set a trend...she followed a long a well established one that already existed.

Creyk 17,817
The way for this to not blow out of proportion is for us Little Monsters and Katy Cats to not fight about sales. but that is the most fun in the whole process! However they open, the threads about the opening sales will be gold
Redstreak 6,653
Who even brought up Taylor to this argument? Don't get too butthurt, hun. It seems like you can't come up with a coherent and valid argument, so you'll use someone like Taylor, someone who is currently at her 5th era, and compare her to Katy, who is in her 3rd era. The main reason that Taylor's album, 1989, has sold a lot is because she took her music out of Spotify, and fun fact: a lot of her fans bought multiple copies of her album. Katy didn't revolutionized anything with PRISM? As Prismatic said, Katy had a huge success with Dark Horse, a trap/hip hop song. In this day and age which is dominated by pop and dance, and mainstream artists have success with those genres, Katy released Dark Horse and had a huge success with it. And now a lot of artists are following Katy's path with more pop/urban songs, and when you think about it, you hear a lot more urban/pop songs on the radio than you did 1-7 years ago, specially with mainstream musical acts. That's called revolutionizing. Deny it all you want, but that doesn't changes the fact Katy is influencial and revolutionizing. She did it with Dark Horse, PRISM's third single. I don't see any impact from the 1989 era, though. As much as it is successful, it did not revolutionized anything. And you seem to be ignoring all the statistics and facts that I presented in my other comment in this thread, where I prove that Katy hasn't passed her peak and that PRISM is her most successful era yet.ermmmm let's not.Taylor's third era still produced an album that got a 77 on Metacritic, was written entirely on her own with only one co-producer (at the age of 19-20), sold over 5 million WW with it also being her first album to open with over a million, and it also got Grammy wins. 1989 sold as much as it did because the music is good enough to justify it being bought. I thought the big thing was the fan bases laughing at Taylor and saying that all leaving Spotify would do is just have everyone illegally download it? Hmm guess not. and fun fact: every artist has fans that buy multiple copies. Give her time, it's her first genuine foray into pop. She's already made her mark on country music, hence her recent acceptance of the milestone achievement award at the ACM's. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~
GHGUY 230
Katy has also been very overexposed for a good 4 years straight and I think now her team is trying to do a blackout a la Gaga but I think it's gonna backfire on her like it did with Gaga

JustMeJordanT 2
Wow, you are in denial. Keep on telling yourself that if it helps you to sleep at night, boo! <3The fact that all of Katy's songs have something to do with her life and personality says a lot that she had a huge input on them and had a big hand on writing. Writers like Bonnie, Ester, Sia, Greg Wells, Sarah Hudson, and StarGate already have made tons of money for doing their jobs on Katy's songs (and songs of other people), so that doesn't makes any sense for them to try to lie about a thing like this just to keep their jobs. Btw, lots of Ghostwriters have came out and have said that they wrote songs FOR a certain artist and that artist wasn't involved in the writing process at all. Hmm, I wonder why that has never happened to Katy. Embarrassing. You just got owned by a 14 year old. Let me introduce you to a songwriter named Max Martin. He is the reason that Katy is even relevant. He cowrote all of her #1's. Katy couldn't even write a #78 without the help of him. Yes, Katy does write SOME of her music, but is also greatly influenced by other writers as well. Also, regarding your previous posts about chart performance. Chart positions, like anything else in life (Including Vevo/YT views), can be bought. With enough money, a recording of a fart could stay #1 for three weeks. Katy most likely bought her positions in the charts... especially with TIHWD... I mean honestly, it repeats the same monotone phrase over and over again. Now I do love Katy Perry, and I do love Gaga. They are both so different. Katy is more soft whereas Gaga is more rough and versatile. Even their songwriting is different. Prism was a basic pop album with catchy hooks and overused chords. Born this way was deeper with foreign synths and newer ideas. Also, THEY BOTH HAD DIFFERENT TARGET AUDIENCES. More parents like that Katy is a little more 'PG' and let their kids listen to her, whereas most parents don't support the LGBT community (Gaga's main target) and won't approve of them listening. I see this everyday... This is another reason why Katy is played more on the radio. As for the future, Katy will get boring. It happens. She won't be immortal. She won't be a timeless icon either. The world will move on. Be prepared.

The world will move on. Be prepared. You are kind of correct about Max Martin, but he composed the music of Katy's 18 songs that he is associated with. And what I mean by composing the music I mean that he composed the instrumentals of her songs. Oh, and Katy never had a #78 single. Katy doesn't writes some of her songs, she writes ALL of her own songs. It seems like you ignored the links that I put in my comment. As I said in my other comment, YouTube views of artists mostly come from VEVO and VEVO doesn't buy or allows artists and their record labels to buy views. And I hope you're not being serious. You say that Katy bought her positions? You sound very envious. You have no proof that Katy bought her chart positions. At least, provide us with some sources and links. She didn't even had a high position on charts with This Is How We Do (because she was too lazy to promote it).PRISM is not a basic pop album. The only songs in it that are considered basic are Roar, Birthday, This Is How We Do, and International Smile, and that's only because they are made for radio. Legendary Lovers, Walking On Air, Unconditionally, Dark Horse, Ghost, Love Me, This Moment, Double Rainbow, By The Grace Of God, Spiritual, It Takes Two, and Choose Your Battles are far from basic. Just like Born This Way which has a foreign sound to it, PRISM was heavily inspired by Sweidish dance music. PRISM is not even fully a pop album to begin with. PRISM is a mix of pop and dance genres, and it also contains the alternative genre as well. It has a soul genre edge and influence to it, too. Oh, and Legendary Lovers-worldbeat and folk, Birthday-disco, and Dark Horse-trap and hip hop. Your Candy Perfume Girl

Plus, a lot of these songs are not urban or trap. They mostly are funk, R&B, pop, dance, and etc... and a few of them are hip hop. Geez, at least if you're going to argue something like this, at least try. Your Candy Perfume Girl
