LoveandMagic 1,731
While I wish Katy well I'm really not here for the media comparisons again. So I hope if Gaga releases in 2016 there is a wide gap between both of their albums. I'm sure they will both do well, but I don't want the "feuding" to overshadow the music. They can both have their moments in the sun. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

StrawberryBlond 14,693
I'm sure that they are going to release in the same time-frame again, and that Katy is going to mop the floor with Gaga. She is coming off of the hugely successful Prism era after all, and who doesn't LOVE Dark Horse? Very few people. While Gaga will be coming back from obscurity, unless her single with RedOne this year actually happens and it does well.I don't really care which one of them will be more successful, the meltdowns or celebration will be super fun either wayHer chances of winning against Gaga for the third album in a row is extremely slim. The public have got distinctly tired of her and she's currently going through a backlash similar to the kind that Gaga had at the end of BTW. I think BTW and AP proved that you can fall after major success. While BTW wasn't a flop, it didn't have anywhere near the success we thought it would considering it followed on from her TF + TFM era. And AP should have been more successful after BTW. It just goes to show how fast the public move on, particularly in pop. The underpeformance of these albums educated me a lot about how no artist is invincible and your biggest failure can immediately follow your biggest success. I'm sure Katy will be no different.I'm not the first to note that Prism is very similar to the BTW era. Its lead single was a huge #1 success worlwide, the second single not so much (unconditionally flopped harder than Juas, though), third single a big hit (DH moreso, however), fourth and fifth singles flops (though Y&I went top ten in the US) and TIHWD very nearly equalled MTN's peak. BTW as an album sold over 6 million worldwide, Prism sold around 3 million, so Gaga did a lot better (sold 1 million on the first week too, which Katy didn't). BTW also went #1 all over the world whereas Prism couldn't get to #1 in any non-English speaking countries. The tour was very similar. A large Australian leg (Katy's was a lot better, of course), a large Asian leg (but Gaga's was better) and large Latin American leg (we'll have to see how this one turns out). This tour will be Katy's most successful whereas it was Gaga's second most successful. BTW was nominated for Grammys but didn't win any, just like Prism. There has been considerable backlash against Katy this era, just like Gaga experienced with BTW (Unconditionally racial appropriation scandal, DH music video amulet scandal, TIHWD copying of FKA twigs and perecieved racism scandal, the left shark shade at the Superbowl, the disrespectful Italian photos scandal...). It all doesn't bode well for a successful follow-up. We know this from experience now.Overall, Katy did better than BTW in terms of #1 singles and touring gross but Gaga did better than Prism in terms of top ten singles, worldwide album sales, worldwide chart positions and touring venue size and countries visited. Even in America, Katy's biggest market, she's struggling to get #1's and top tens now. Imagine what she'll be like with her next album, especially if it's acoustic? She'll also not have the demand to go back to all those Asian and Latin American countries again and her Australian success will definitely never be repeated (unless you're Pink). Remember that only a few Asian countries at the very end of the TD tour got to hear her sing POM and WA. The rest of the world hadn't seen her tour with those songs yet, so part of the sucess from the Prismatic tour came from the fact that she hadn't performed her 2 majorly successful re-release tracks from her last album in 99% of the world yet. The TD tour wasn't all that extensive either and not all the venues were big so it was likely a big portion of people who went to the Prismatic tour didn't get to see her last time. There were so many factors as to why this tour was so big but she won't have that next time. Her next tour will be a massive downgrade, just like the AP tour was.Wasn't Gaga also the one who pushed Applause's release around when Roar's release date? She announced Applause's release date before Katy announced Roar's. She released its date plus ARTPOP's, in an official message to us all, with pre-order details. Lo and behold, a few weeks later, Katy announces her lead single and it's released the week before Applause, with her album due a month before ARTPOP's. This was odd as she'd been completely quiet about her new work up until this point and even said shortly before Gaga's announcement that her new album was only halfway done. All logic seemed to point towards an early 2014 lead single release date. Apparently a Capitol insider even said that Prism was aiming for an early 2014 release but was rushed in order to be released in time for the Christmas season (yeah, more like Gaga season). No, all the evidence suggests that Katy was halfway done, heard the announcement, got scared, rush-released her single and rush-released her album so she would easily win against Gaga. Then, in a horrible twist of fate, poor Applause got leaked the week before release (incidentially, Katy's release week), meaning Gaga had no option but to release it officially a week early meaning its potential and further plans were screwed. Oh, no, this whole mess and head to head battle was all down to Katy's doing. It was one of the worst pieces of clear sabotage I have ever seen in music history. Kacey Elizabeth 900
Nah. Everyone says Katy is on top but she went from 5 number ones(TD) to 2 number ones (Prism). It actually reminds me of the translation from TFM to BTW. Both Prism and BTW were third releases that blew initially off the hype of the former album, but died by the endend of the era. At least Born This Way was consistent and spawned a #1, a #6, a #3, a #6, and a #12. Prism had a #1, a #13, another surprise #1, a #37, and a #32. Only two Prism songs became "hits" while even BTW's lessers were solid on radio and mostly Top Ten. So IMO I honestly think Katy's next album is doomed. Its kind of a catch 22 for her in 2016 because if she releases something really pop then no one will be surprised and younger girls will outshine her. But if she releases something artsy she will just fall in the same trap ARTPOP did as a fourth release as being "try hard" or unrelatable. If I was Katy's manager I would have pulled another rerelease of Prism with darker songs the way TD had so she was still on radio into 2015, then pulled back until 2017 with a rebranding. Her chances of winning against Gaga for the third album in a row is extremely slim. The public have got distinctly tired of her and she's currently going through a backlash similar to the kind that Gaga had at the end of BTW. Oh, no, this whole mess and head to head battle was all down to Katy's doing. It was one of the worst pieces of clear sabotage I have ever seen in music history.LOL, PRISM era was and is more successful than the Born This Way era. PRISM may only got two huge hits, but Roar and Dark Horse were much more successful, consistent, and bigger in charts, sales, streaming, and radios than any singles from Born This Way were. PRISM has spend 81 weeks in Billboard 200 so far (it is still charting), while Born This Way has spent only 47 weeks in the Billboard 200 chart. Dark Horse spent 4 weeks at #1 position on Billboard Hot 100, and it spent 22 consecutive weeks inside of top 10 of that chart + spent 58 total (consecutive) weeks in that chart. The song was the biggest female single of 2014 (both US & WW) and the 2nd biggest single of 2014 overall (both US & WW). It was the top streaming single of 2014 as well, by being the highest streamed single on Spotify that year. Dark Horse's MV was the most viewed video on YouTube in 2014, and it was named the best hit of 2014 by American Top 40. The single holds the record for the most weekly played song ever by a female on the radio on Mainstream Top 40's chart. It's the 2nd to Uptown Funk. It was the most played song on the radio by a female in 2014 (2nd most played song overall). It's music video is the most viewed MV EVER by a female on VEVO and YouTube. It is also the 2nd highest viewed MV overall on VEVO (3rd on YouTube) of all time. The MV is also on it's way to get 1 billion views on VEVO, making it the first video by a female to do so. It is also the second most streamed female song on Spotify of all time by having over 280 million streams. Not to mention it's 6 million US sales, it being certified 9 times Platinum by RIAA, and 13.2 million WW sales. With that being said, Roar is the fastest-selling single in digital history, is the most weekly played song on the radio according to Adult Top 40's chart, spent 2 weeks at the #1 position on Billboard Hot 100, hit #1 on 68 iTunes Charts around the world, is the 3rd most weekly played song on the radio on Mainstream Top 40's chart. This makes it the 3rd to Dark Horse (her own song) and Uptown Funk. The single also has sold 12.2 million copies WW, 6 million copies in the US, and it is certified 8 times Platinum by RIAA. It had the best, biggest, and highest first week sales for a single in 2013 as well. Oh, and it also has one of the biggest single-upward movements (by going up 83 positions by going from #85 to #2 in a week) in Billboard Hot 100's history. None of Born This Way's singles come close to any of this (maybe except for Born This Way's debut at #1 and the weeks it spent at that position on Billboard Hot 100 chart and it's iTunes record). PRISM is also the only album (overall) in history to have 2 singles in top 5 of Mainstream Top 40's most weekly played songs chart and have two videos in Top 3 of VEVO's most viewed videos of all time list. PRISM is also #2 on VEVO's list of biggest female eras ever (being 2nd to her own Teenage Dream era). Born This Way is nowhere near any of this. The Prismatic World Tour has probably outgrossed The Born This Way Ball Tour (and most likely has outdid it's attendance). The PWT overall had and has more success than The BTWB Tour had. Katy performed at the SuperBowl Halftime show this year, and her performance was the most watched halftime show EVER in Television's history (by having 118.5 million views, while the SuperBowl game itself had a average of only 114 million views both before and after Katy's show). Not only that, but Katy's performance was the highest ranked/rated and most talked about halftime show of all time. Don't even get me to start on Katy's social media in the PRISM era. Katy became the first person ever in history to get 50 million followers on Twitter, and she is the most followed person on Twitter by having 70 million followers. She has over 20 million followers on Instagram, over 72 million likes on Facebook, over 15 million subscribers (almost 16 million) on her VEVO channel, making her channel the 2nd most subscribed VEVO channel and 3rd most subscribed channel on YouTube, has over 6 billion views on YouTube/VEVO, making her the 3rd most viewed artist ever, and she topped the social media in 2014. Katy was nowhere near this popular or had a stardom as big as she does now back in her Teenage Dream era (she even scored Cosmopolitan's first ever global cover in 2014). Katy was crowned as top digital artist ever by RIAA and a painting of her was added to the National Portrait Gallery in 2014 and she just got celebrated at the Eye Pop: The Celebrity Gaze exhibit. Plus, in Spotify, PRISM has more streams than Teenage Dream (even though they both are in top 5 of most streamed female albums on Spotify). PRISM may didn't got Teenage Dream's single records and milestones on different charts, or it's overall single sales, but PRISM was more successful critically, and it was a way more successful era by the terms of touring, streaming, airplays, and stardom/popularity (while Gaga went downhill in critical acclaim, record sales, charts, touring, streaming, airplays, and stardom/popularity in the Born This Way era, specially when compared to The Fame Monster era). Not to mention that the Teenage Dream era had way more promo than the PRISM era got. PRISM is now selling twice as fast as Teenage Dream did in it's time. And Katy literally TOPPED NINE 2014 Year End Billboard charts, and was in top 10 of many of them as well. By the way, your numbers are wrong. Here are PRISM's singles chart positions on Billboard Hot 100: #1, #34, #14, #1, #17, and #24 and here are Born This Way's singles chart positions on Billboard Hot 100: #1, #12, #10, #3, #6, and #29. What you need to understand here is that Born This Way and it's singles have more mainstream sounds and had 10 times more promo than PRISM and it's singles had. Birthday and This Is How We Do barely got any promo, unlike You & I and Marry The Night, which had heavy promotion. Same goes out with Born This Way, Hair, Judas, and The Edge Of Glory, which all had more promo than Roar, Walking On Air, Unconditionally (which is not even mainstream and commercial both lyrically and musically), and Dark Horse. @StrawberryBlond You can keep on making excuses that why The Prismatic World Tour was and is 10 times more successful than California Dreams Tour was (by saying that not a lot of countries got to see her at her last tour, LMAO), but that doesn't changes the fact that Katy's global stardom/popularity has increased a lot since her last era, so she'll obviously will have a greater demand in countries that she went to before and the countries that she didn't. Katy didn't even performed Part Of Me or Wide Awake at her last California Dreams Tour shows in Asia, as they weren't released at that time. Stop pretending like you know the future and know how well Katy will do in her next era commercially, cause you really don't. You need to do your research. PRISM went #1 on bunch of charts from non-English speaking countries. PRISM also peaked at #1 on 72 iTunes Charts worldwide. Where's your proof that Katy was going to release PRISM in early 2014 btw? Yeah, right. NONE. I never saw or heard any Capitol insider say that Katy was going to release new material in early 2014. It's not Katy's fault that Applause got leaked, and Katy won that battle anyway. You say that Unconditionally flopped harder than Judas, yet Unconditionally is certified Platinum by RIAA, has sold over 1 million copies in the US, and has more views on YouTube/VEVO than Judas which is certified Gold by RIAA and hasn't even hit the 1 million sales mark in the US yet (both have sold around the same WW though). The Born This Way Ball Tour wasn't even in top 5 of 2012's top tours, whereas The Prismatic World Tour was the 4th best-selling/highest grossing tour WW overall in 2014 and was the best-selling/highest grossing female tour WW in 2014. The main reason that Born This Way sold 1.1 million copies in it's debut week was mostly due to the multiple discounts that it had, whereas PRISM barely had any discounts. You are comparing the total sales (6.3 million) of a album such as Born This Way which has been out for 4 years and 8 months to the total sales (3.5 million) of a album such as PRISM which has been out for 1 year and 8 months, which is kind of unfair. And last but not least, The PWT and The BWTB Tour are tied for the countries visited and the type of venues. There are rumors that The Prismatic World Tour's last leg will be South Africa.
