Elton John’s life is being turned in to a Broadway musical

Love Elton John? Love musicals? Then this could be the news you’ve been waiting for – since the singing legend is about to get the stage treatment.

Yes, Rocketman – based on Elton’s life, and featuring some of his most famous songs – is on its way to Broadway and the West End, courtesy of the same team who brought Billy Elliott to the stage.

However you may have to wait a while to see it, since a film version of the singer’s life, also entitled Rocketman – and starring Tom Hardy as Elton – is due to be released first.

The stage show, meanwhile, will open on Broadway before transferring to the West End.

‘It will be called Rocketman but we will do the film first,’ Old Vic producer Sally Greene told The Sun. ‘It will open in Broadway before London.’

‘It will be Elton’s back catalogue… he will never end his career.’

Meanwhile Tom Hardy has revealed his nerves at portraying Elton on film – due to his own lack of singing prowess.

‘I’m not a singer.,’ he admitted in an interview last month. ‘I have no idea really. I’m really trying but it’s hard to open my mouth in that way.

‘I’m not really drawn towards singing and musicals and that stuff.’
