Even if no one is seriously injured, the damage/loss of homes, businesses, etc can be really devastating to families/individuals and the local economy. We're "used" to it in the States, but it doesn't make it any less than a burden. I feel badly for other areas that may not be as used to it because they may be ill prepared to minimize the loss.
