The Vatican has officially recognized the state of Palestine in a new treaty.

The treaty, which was finalized Wednesday but still has to be signed, makes clear that the Holy See has switched its diplomatic relations from the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine.

The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the U.N. General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state. But the treaty is the first legal document negotiated between the Holy See and the Palestinian state and constitutes an official recognition.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is due to see Pope Francis on Saturday before the canonization of two new saints from the Holy Land a day late.

Not as useless as this post, though. :fail:

wow, so edgy

Said it once and I'll say it again, no matter what country is symbolic-recognizing Palestine it has yet to achieve statehood before signing peace-agreements with Israel because it is the one that actually controlling its borders right now

Thank you for...stating the obvious? your negative passive aggressive (predictable) post contributed to nothing as well. & you haven't justified it. Whatever, i'm not in the mood for turning this into a big discussion now.

Good news :applause:

Slightly off topic but today Obama said ""I will never give up on the hope for peace between Israelis and Palestinians,"..."Palestinians deserve an end to the occupation and the daily indignities that come with it."..."It's no secret that we now have a very difficult path forward. As a result, the United States is taking a hard look at our approach to the conflict,"

Hopefully it leads to more than just rhetoric

That's true. But for the international community it can do much, maybe not instantly effective on Palestine itself but it can be for interreligious (+ political) communication and in general public pressure/emotion it can be a step towards a larger anti-Israel sentiment that could be effective in a lot of areas too.

So not useless.
