Whispering 18,865
I think his injury was either self inflicted from banging his head on the walls of the van or from falling inside the van. So I think the murder and even manslaughter charges are ridiculous. I think thats just to keep people from rioting. The prosecutor knows those charges won't stick. There may be convictions for negligence though because the cops didn't put his seat belt on and didnt get him medical care when he asked for it. But I really doubt there'd be any jail time. Its more likely there'll be a huge payout of millions to the Gray family from the police dept and the Baltimore government.Thats the way it looks to me now. Maybe my opinion will change though after seeing more evidence. His hands were shackled behind his back and his feet were also shackled. Gray was placed face down in a small space on the floorboard of the police van. Have you seen a picture of the inside of that van? There is no way to get up from that position with your hands behind your back and your feet shackled. It would be impossible to sever your own spinal chord in this situation. The policemen will all turn on each other and start spilling their guts now that they have been charged. This way, maybe we will find out who killed Freddie Gray...because someone did, and several were involved in ignoring his pleas for medical attention. This is the normal route to drive from the place he was arrested to police station: This is the route that way used to drive give hime a "ride" to the police station: A rough ride is a technique used by the police to confuse, hurt and intimdate somebody who is arrested and break their will for a being more collaborative about their inviction in the future. The criminal suspects PURPOSELY are not wearing seat belts while the driver makes as many sharp and dangerous turns as possible to throw the unsecured passenger around in the van. It is more than likely, rather obvious, that this has caused the fractured spine.

Tropico 4,145
How the f**k does someone who smashed a window have a higher bail and could face longer in jail than police officers (who are meant to protect) who KILLED someone. This is such bs....honestly this is a huge problem in America.... I thought the exact thing. It's a damn window. Not someone's life. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

Tropico 4,145
At least the black people in Baltimore can not say "A white police officer killed a black man."But... White policemen did kill a black man? It may not only have been white people but it doesn't take away from the fact that white men co-operated in the killing of a black man. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
Whispering 18,865
I thought the exact thing. It's a damn window. Not someone's life. The law states that rioting can lead to a MAXIMUM sentence of life in prison. He isn't going to get this for busting in a window. No one was hurt in the process and he didn't burn down a building that ended up killing someone. There have been hundreds of rioters who have been arrested and most of them have already been released. I just saw an interview yesterday outside of the jailhouse, with one of the teens who threw a rock at the cops. His daddy had come to get him out. Don't believe headlines that are made just to get reactions and stir things up. There is enough truly shady **** going on, than to believe some of these attention grabbing headlines! shane_c 480
Professionals have claimed that the test results (autopsy?) didn't indicate that the injuries were self-inflicted at all actually that was part of the original suspicion, because the idea that the injuries were self-inflicted The second statements strike me a bit contradicting though, because criminal negligence definitely results in Jail time, esp. from people in power; the fact that Goodson was charged with Depraved-Heart Murder; hes charged with acting in a way that was clearly risking someone's life and decided to continue the behavior. It seems like the girl was the least involved from what I've read, but Imo with such a well painted visual of the crimes, it seems clear that at least some of them will receive full charges; thats how I see it at least. Another possibility, along with self inflicted and accidental fall, is that the van driver drove recklessly to make him fly around in the back of the van and that is what caused the injury. The driver may have got annoyed with him screaming an making noise. Actually that probably is the most lilely explanation. Im sure the driver wasnt trying to kill him though, he jsut thought he'd bang him around a little and that would make him shut up. If that is what happened then that would be a crime that he'd get jail time for. The medical examiner wouldn't know whether it was intentional or not; that would take witnesses (to how the van was driving...) and other evidence. The female cop is the 2nd most seriously charged. She is charged with manslaughter. I geuss for not putting on his seat belt and not getting him a medic.

I was thinking he could have stood up at some time before he was on the floor earlier on in the ride and thats when he could have fell. I was imagining him standing and the van taking off and going head first into the back doors. That's where they say the bolt is. I dunno, I need to know more of the evidence. I couldn't see why a van driver would purposely try to injure him. But if he was making noise and the driver got annoyed then it would make sense. Luiz 4,253
wish more people would have read a bit of this article http://data.baltimoresun.com/news/police-settlements/ its an investigation into the baltimore PD's history of brutality done in 2014 before all this rioting and stuff. The city has paid about $5.7 million since 2011 over lawsuits claiming that police officers brazenly beat up alleged suspects. One hidden cost: The perception that officers are violent can poison the relationship between residents and police. Over the past four years, more than 100 people have won court judgments or settlements related to allegations of brutality and civil rights violations. Victims include a 15-year-old boy riding a dirt bike, a 26-year-old pregnant accountant who had witnessed a beating, a 50-year-old woman selling church raffle tickets, a 65-year-old church deacon rolling a cigarette and an 87-year-old grandmother aiding her wounded grandson. i wonder what the numbers are for a place like detroit or LA I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. It does seem likely that the "rough ride" is what happened. But its not impossible that he hurt himself banging his head or that he just fell. Ill wait to se all the evidence. But because 3 black persons were involved, the black people are less angry than if all the cops are white.

There are two settled lawsuits in Baltimore where the driver paralyzed the riders. Police give these "nickel rides" all the time. There are also bolts on the floor. Freddie Gray went from a guy who was running through alley ways to not being able to walk and in great pain before they put him in the wagon...to not being able to breath, a severed spinal chord, a fractured spine, and cardiac arrest. They murdered him, all over a legal pocket knife.

They murdered him, all over a legal pocket knife. It wasnt over a knife, its that he had a history of d--g dealing in the area and he ran.Thats no excuse, its a tragedy what happened to him. They shouldn't have arrested him in the first place. I dont think he was hurt that bad before he was put in the van. I think he just wasn't complying and letting his feet drag. It did look like he may have had a slight injury to his left leg, but he stood up then and got into the van on his own.The bolt mark is suppose to be on the top of his head so Im not sure how that could have come from a bolt on the floor. Im open to the possibility that it was murder or manslaughter, but Ill wait see all the evidence. That's what you should do too. Thats what everybody should do.
