Would GUY have been a hit if it had more radio airplay?

Personally I think GUY has a harsh sounding instrumental (like Judas) and the chorus is just weak. Apart from the heavenly bridge it's a really exhausting song.

It got enough airplay to enter top50 of itunes, but it didn't even enter top100

After how poorly DWUW was treated as a single (no video, R. Kelly controversy, Christina collab being released etc.), did you seriously expect GUY to smash? ARTPOP wasn't hot after Applause, and it ran out of steam early. That whole era was SO flawed. Even if she had released Gypsy as the 3rd for example.. it would've flopped just as hard as GUY did. GUY should've been the lead. Followed by Applause.

It's not like GP is like "oh DWUW didnt have video, I have to hate GUY, I cant buy it" lol. They just didnt like the track

let me use Rihanna for examlple. Rated Rw had 4-5 flop singles and then Rude Boy was released and it smashed.

there were statistics for the radio called "call-out scores" and they were absolutely negative... that's part of the reason most stations didn't bother to play it... also dont act like it had no airplay at all... with the little airplay it had, it should have been much higher on iTunes...

Well, I am pretty sure that some other song with negative "call-out scores" have been played a lot more then GUY. And like I said, I only heard the song once so it didn't really have much airplay. And I am pretty sure this is not enough to make the song chart good on itunes.

Disagreed. That Rihanna example is a unique example in that it cannot be applied to every other artist out there who's single under performs. I think the Pop Music Market is a difficult one to dissect - it's so massive. The sales/performance trends are different for every artist, every genre. There's too many extraneous factors affecting sales.

The part bolded in your post - if that's what you took out of my post, it's not what I was getting at. 'They just didn't like the track' is a huge generalisation. I personally feel as though because ARTPOP was poorly received in comparison to her previous works by critics/some of her fan base, plus DWUW under performing (and all it's controversies), that the actual album/era itself just sort of failed to really explode. I think GUY had the potential to be a worldwide smash if it were released to start the Era. It's so Gaga. Just my thoughts on this matter.

Nah, I think by then the era just had been destroyed. Maybe if it was released sooner with a better video, I don't know.

But only thing that destroys era after several flops is that radio refuses to give song a chance if era is labeled as flop. But they gave GUY chance, but it just didn't picked up. Gaga should have performed it somwhere
