Morphine Prince 109,781
HONOLULU (AP) -- A bill that would make Hawaii the first state to raise the legal smoking age to 21 cleared the Legislature on Friday and is headed to the governor. The bill would prevent adolescents from smoking, buying or possessing both traditional and electronic cigarettes. "It's definitely groundbreaking legislation," said Jessica Yamauchi, executive director of the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii, which pushed for the bill. "It's amazing to be the first state in something. That's very exciting for us." Gov. David Ige hasn't yet decided whether he will sign the bill, and his staff has to vet all bills for legal issues, he said. "The departments will be doing their review and then we'll have the opportunity to look at it," Ige said. Those caught breaking the rules would be fined $10 for the first offense, and subsequent violations would lead to a $50 fine or mandatory community service. Dozens of local governments have similar bans, including Hawaii County and New York City. Source: http://news.yahoo.com/hawaii-poised-become-1st-state-221111401.html This is so dumb. So you can join the military and die at 18 but you can't smoke or drink? So ridiculous. Everything should be lowered to the legal adult age which is 18. As an adult you are responsible for your own choices. The government shouldn't be banning these substances for you. Not to mention the only reason the legal drinking age is 21 is because the law threatened to cut funds for highways in states that didn't enforce it. Just my two cents, feel free to disagree. In an ideal world cigarettes shouldn't even exist imo but this is the world we live in.

Cocaine Heart 4,768
I think in terms of smoking this is a good thing, it's obliviously not going to stop people younger than that to smoke but it's easier to differentiate between a 16 year old and a 21 year old. It will make it more difficult for teens to have access to it. We going to boo

Dangerous Man 9,245
Taxes from cigarettes are really big so that's why government can't ban cigars. That is just another illusion they are giving us. craig 680
Good. Should be illegal tbh.I detest the smell of cigarettes and support every anti-smoking measure so far, but I can't go for treating adults like kids or expanding the d--g war to another substance. I don't want to see millions criminalized over cigarettes and the business go to organized crime.

Kind of why marijuana should be legal and decriminalized... just look at the death caused by d--g cartels, which many of them import marijuana to various countries.
