Fans (or at least stans on Gaga Daily) are not aging with Gaga as time passes

I think it's because of the Born This Way era. Gaga basically attracted really young teenage fans who were drawn in by the anti-bullying/gay acceptance marketing. And she followed it up with a mostly immature dance-pop album that largely panders to the same audience. She'll have to make better and more mature music if she wants more mature fans, because she's unlikely to regain the mainstream pop crowd.

Some of us have always been older than average.

I dont think it's  as much about Gaga for older fans not as active as it is about Life.  Life gets busy with college and work, social life, etc, and many grow out of spending so much time in forums.

Some of us however are mentally young forever ;)

Certain sites naturally draw younger members and that's what GGD has been like for a while now.

All you have to do is go to a concert to see that there are tons of people 21 and older, and yes...tons of females!

This site is not an accurate representation of Gaga's fanbase.

I made an age thread on here a few days ago and it really bothers me that the average age on this site is around 17-20. I found an age poll from 2009 from the Gagadaily archives and the age breakdown was pretty much the same as it is now. The thing is, the fan base isn't getting older with time because fans seem grow out of stanning after the age of 21. So, when I started stanning when I was 19 in 2011, my age was average and now mostly everyone who was my age or older left.

I am in no way trying to offend or put down fans who are teenagers. Its just kind of upsetting to me because im 23 now and I feel like Im too old to be here. About 70% of this site is younger than me. I didn't even realize this or think about it until i made the poll the other day. I guess I knew that there were a lot of younger fans on here because of some of the immaturity I was seeing, but I didn't think there was such a huge young presence. I feel the same way as a highschooler would if they were hanging out with middle schoolers. I just feel embarassed and ashamed that I didn't grow out of stanning yet while mostly everyone else my age already has. I was always embarrassed of being an obsessed fan and being on this forum. I would never tell anyone in my real life how much of a fan I am. But I was never embarrassed because I thought I was too old. I just always thought it was weird to be obsessed with a celebrity at any age.

Anyway, how do fans who are my age or older feel about the huge young presence? Was there ever a period of time when the fan base was older? Are there any age polls from 2010-2013? For the fans who are younger than me, do you think you will still be here in a few years? Will the age range of stanning always be around 17-20 reguardless of how much time passes and how old Gaga gets?

Here's my thought process:

I'm 35. I'll be turning 36 in a few months. I'm WAYYYYYYYYYYY older than almost everyone on here and Yes, I am aware that most of the Gaga fans on this site are extremely immature. I ignore it, and try to bring a level of maturity and discourse to this site.

Regardless, the only other time I've ever gone through a hardcore, SINCERE STANNING phase of my life was... you guessed it... when I was 18 - 22.

Back in 1997, I fell Hardcore in LOVE with Ani DiFranco. She was at the peak of her career at the time, and she was probably about ten years older than me... Same age difference as most of the little monsters on GGD are to Gaga currently.

Prior to Ani DiFranco, I had never experienced a hardcore obsession on one musical artist, let alone an epic goddess on her level. I had posters on my walls. I made Ani DiFranco websites. I bought every album. I knew and memorized every word to every song. I cried and wept during her sad songs. I went to many shows... and she had a really wild fanbase filled with lots of young women, many of whom were gay, lesbian, dykes, bis-xual, queer and really alternative. it was definitely not the mainstream crowd. I bonded with a whole community of people because of Ani DiFranco and she really changed my life...

And then... around the age of 22 (maybe 23, I'm not sure) - I just lost interest.... and I moved on. I stopped buying her albums. Ani DiFranco got progressively more mature and boring and lapsed into this sad era and then she had kids... and now she has 2 kids, and she's married... and she's in her mid 40s and she's not the wild, s-xy young rebel that she was back in the late 90s when she was changing her hair color every week and releasing wild, unapologetic songs.

So anyway... I think that there is just a natural progression of both the artist and the fanbase... and it evolves over the course of an artist's transformation.

In terms of Gaga, I think the best is yet to come... but we will have to wait and see. I think she is just getting started and getting better every day in her abilities as a vocalist & confident goddess.

So, up to this point, I think Gaga's music has appealed mostly to a younger crowd - because that's what pop music is mostly geared towards.. but if she really does evolve to the next level in her career, I think she might actually appeal to a much wider, more diverse, and dare I say it - more mature audience. She will get there. And I think her fan base will continue to transform over time as well. it's just part of the natural growth cycle of an artist.

Now as for Why somebody MY AGE is into Gaga... that is just because I recognize a F*cking Goddess when I see one. ;)

It's funny because in 2010 I remember feeling like I was too young to be on GGD (I was 14) most of the members I talked to were older and I felt like the little kid trying to hang with the cool kids.

As much as I love BTW and ARTPOP, I'd have to agree with this. I noticed the influx of kids my age & younger in 2011-2012.

The fact that you're older than 21 doesn't mean that you should feel embarrassed for being a Gaga fan or feel the need to stop liking her music. I'm sorry but this sounds ridiculous to me.

I have been a fan of Gaga since 2008. I was 13 back then. Now I'm almost 20 and I stan really hard, and especially after the artRAVE I've been showing everyone how much I love her. I'm not afraid that I'll tell my friends that I love Gaga and they'll judge me for it coz I don't care about their opinion.

This site is not an accurate representation of Gaga's fanbase.

and then there's that... and that might just be the truth, that the peeps who use fansites are just naturally going to be younger.. but that the actual fanbase might be much, much larger and more age diverse than GGD is going to represent.

Her concert crowds are more diverse in all ways, age as well as a much higher percentage of straights.  GGD really doesn't accurately reflect the true demographics.

Well, apparently she lost lots of fans with the BTW era and even more with the AP era. She probably lost lots of her older fans but gained newer ones. And really, can you blame the fans? The older you are, the more betrayals you had to take. Gaga is messy A-F, the list of betrayals never ends, we don't even get music anymore only jazz., she has a bad attitude, we have to wait 5 more months just to properly listen to TIHTY...point is, at one point it does get tiring. It's a lot easier to stan for other artists and many did do that. If she doesn't start pumping out amazing music again I'll probably leave her when I'm 21 too.

Um... She released her last "pop" album in 2013 not 1993: talk about overreacting.

Jazz music earned her much needed critical acclaim and a 6th grammy, which btw many of the basic poptarts the bandwagoners you mention left her for have yet to win, not to mention without C2C she would not have gotten that oscar performance that basically made people remember she existed

And she didn't even hype TIHTY how is that a betrayal :lmao:

Who cares how many grammies she has won? Irrelevant, what matters is whether she is putting out good music or not, thats what fans care about.

I recommend you take some English classes as I didn't say TIHTY was a betrayal but you tried sis  :coffee:
