Toy guns look real - blame the  person that gave him that toy and the 12 year old that pranced around with the toy gun at a park.  12 year old's death is unfortunate but 12 year olds know right from wrong.

If someone is running from the cops you know they are fleeing the cops because they don't want to be caught.

I just want to get across that you have to look at the first step in this cycle. And stop the first step from happening. First step - criminal behavior which goes for everyone. It's your choice.

This is ****ing racist to put blame on black people

You don't know each person's background. If someone steals a gum he does not deserve to get shot and in many cases first aid is never given!

When will white people stop doing crimes? @Breeze  you didn't explain how they get out of these situations alive?

12 year old knows right from wrong, he did not commit crime, he was not running away.. have you seen the video? It's disgusting to defend this.

It sounds like you want to live "The Purge" everyday.

And here I thought you'd respond with something more cohesive.

I knew what I was getting myself into by not agreeing with others. I took another approach to offer a working solution to this problem.  I still stick by this that you have to fight the first step - but for some and most of this forum it is unrealistic to not commit a crime.

I don't understand why there are homeless people in America they can just become a Cop since it seems like any gun happy, egotistical, ignorant piece of sh*t can become one.

Wrong. See, it's these bad ones that make the good ones, like my father and others that have raised me, look very bad. There is a huge problem with corruption in several major cities (and many small towns), and while I am very glad they are being exposed, it makes the good ones look like ****.

Not all cops are bad. In fact I will say the majority are not. I've grown up around them and seen them in action. I also know a great many hispanic and african american cops that are honest. My dad works for a big city, and often has to work the projects and other poor areas. He talks about his job often and NOT ONCE has he ever said anything negative about the people that have to live in those areas. Often he sympathizes with how bad those areas can get. He is also disgusted by such bad behavior that comes within certain departments. It's a topic I have heard him and other officers discuss many times. He is white, by the way.

In fact, people like my father have made it clear that they do not want to work with trigger happy, entitled POS. It's not enough they get **** pay and have a family to support, but the last thing they want is some idiot killing a kid. That's not why they got into law enforcement. Believe it or not, many don't get into the field for "power" but because they want to make their area safe. Many have families and some even live in bad areas. Some try to fix things, then they get dogged by the higher ups at times for making a stand, and punished by losing hours, getting the bad shifts, missing out on bonuses, passed on rightfully deserved promotions etc.

I'm sure some here will talk about their bad experiences, and they should. People should speak out any time injustice is being done. A person has a right to personal safety and not to be harassed for how they look. And people like my dad and his colleagues want the same. They don't think it's right either and some are trying to get to higher offices to work and change the system. But these bad ones make their job so much harder. That's why myself, my dad, and others like him want these bad eggs to be punished as harshly as possible.

But I guess I don't expect anyone to believe me, because the general consensus on GGD is that ALL or the MAJORITY of police officers are "gun happy" racist assholes. All I can do is speak from my own life and experiences. My dad is not one, nor are a great many of the people he works with. It's insulting to the good ones, like my dad, to imply otherwise.

But again, it's only my word.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

But you see, I agree that we have to work on the first step too. BUT, we have to think about what is easier to fix first. Police brutality can easily be decreased with better training and psychological evaluations. Eliminating crime ..... well that's what we have cops for! To respond to crime and take care of the responsible individuals. However, eliminating crime is something more difficult and in the mean time will not fix the police brutality issues.

I'll make another a--logy. Should we put all our efforts into curing HIV OR should be make more efforts to educate people on how to prevent themselves from getting it? What seems easier and more effective at the moment? I hope you see what I'm trying to say.

Police brutality is not what I call it. That's what it is. Irrational aggression against sometimes unarmed individuals is not what normal cops do. Therefore it is a problem. Just because someone commits a crime does not mean they should be dehumanized and shot on sight. That's very medieval if you ask me.

If a criminal responds aggressively then the cop absolutely has the right to defend themselves. But when a criminal is unarmed there is no reason to kill that person.

I find majority of the cops in the middle of the U.S. tends to be more racist than cops on the coast side. Why? Never in my life have I been stopped cops or been questioned in my life. Like one, me and group of minorities student (Asian, Hispanic, and white/Asian (but Gay and pretty feminine) and a white girl), and we almost got a ticket for taking a shopping cart that was stolen by someone else. Another situation was, one night, I was in the car with this white guy, these cups knock on our window asking why our pants were down, so we said it was hot in there (it's really was), so the cop only ask for his and mine ID then let us go, but I feel like if the guy wasn't so masculine and more str8 actIng, we would've been arrested or shot.

Lego, I would say I'm surprised, but I'm not with that mess you just responded to. :toofunny:

This isn't organized that well, but let me go in anywaysl:

Forget all of the "Not all police are bad people" talk. We get it. We get it. We get it. This notion has been reiterated every single time a black person is killed as if that should make a difference. But the moment they're killed, we dig and dig and dig until we find something that may justify their killing. I.e Walter Scott being killed on camera. DailyMail or some publication published an article saying he committed a crime in 1987, as if that was the justification for his killing 28 years later. But the man who killed those three Muslims was an animal lover who was generous and CNN had the nerve to interview his wife to make him look even more lovable. White people can be judged individually, while the actions of Black criminals means we as a whole are horrible animals. I'm so sick of y'all trying to mask your undercover racism when having discussions like this. It's not even subtle anymore. Just admit you hate us and move on.

O.T: I've noticed this great pattern. Non-Blacks can call Black people criminals, throw out statistics, and say horrible racist things and act like it's normal conversation, but the moment we retort with the same things, so many people will respond with "You can't fight hate with hate!" or "Be the bigger person!" I'm so sick of discussing Anti-Black racism with people who just refuse to understand and act as if what they know the gospel truth when they aren't even Black themselves.

When will we discuss Aiyana Jones and Tamir Rice? Why did a cop think a 12 year old boy looked like a 20-something year old man? Not only do prejudice/racist people view every single one of us as criminals, they can't even decipher what the hell a prepubescent black kid looks like from a grown ass black man because either way we are all crime-ridden people. Why do police apologists honestly find it so difficult to believe that they were in the wrong? This stuff has been going on since the beginning of time, but post-Ferguson it's hyper-visible and I'm happy it's being plastered everywhere. We're finally exposing the truth and some people can't handle it because a few of they're precious heroes aren't what they seem to be.

I am not a criminal, nor will I ever be, but that doesn't stop people from watching me in predominately White areas or from some people's micro aggressions in the workplace. And despite my clean record, I refuse to make contact with police officers because I'd rather not even try because I'm already a threat in their eyes. Nobody can see a black person's innocence. It's that bad. But I'd never pass judgement on a White person (or anyone) because I already know what it's like when people do it to me. (Let me also note: Even if you do have a record, it doesn't mean you deserve death) But let's be real, we would never hold all white people (or cops) collectively for a heinous crime done by plenty white people (or cops), because... not all whites are like that!!!1

Lord, if I get killed by police one day and they find out I stole a pencil from my 1st grade teacher, my reputation is done. I'll officially be the one responsible for my own demise. I'm so sick of some of you.

"White people can be judged individually, while the actions of Black criminals means we as a whole are horrible animals."

This is so true and really upsetting.

I just can't believe the excuses I'm seeing around here.

(I just had a rough day so forgive me, not my best post) It's sad because I come from a criminal justice family and I also am related to African Americans.. So when I hear slander about either side it's painful.

What is sad is that there has become this division of "black people" vs. "the police" as if there isn't any overlap.

I know that there is a lot of animosity in the african american community towards the police and they have excellent reasons for that. But at the same time that means they can be very aggressive/jaded towards cops who are only trying to help them (my moms boyfriend is a police sergeant and has been berated by a group of black women even though he was helping them get glass off their car seat) and this attitude can make them appear more suspicious. It becomes cyclical because even if they are being questioned legitimately some will still think it is only because of their race.

But also there are soo many racist police officers who lump together all black people and assume them all equally suspicious. Every single one of my friends that are of color (hispanic or black) has been followed into a gas station or establishment at one point or another as if they look more suspicious than I do. I for one have never been followed in anywhere, or looked at with any suspicion. Some argue that police officers have prejudicial views towards certain people because they spend so much time in the ghettos and the majority of crimes they deal with are perpetrated by african americans. However I think as a LEO you need to be able to divorce a criminal from their skin color, and you shouldn't create stereotypes in your head.

My moms boyfriend now is a cop and I've heard him say racist things. My Dad used to be a cop and his wife is now a black woman. I truly hate when people say "all cops are evil" or "kill all cops"  because in my mind that is just as ignorant as people saying that black people are more likely to  be criminals or should be seen as more suspicious.. African Americans and Police Officers are both just people at the end of the day, and I think that some of the generalizations people make about both do them grave disservices.
The guy in this video just shouldn't be a cop, plain and simple. And he needs to be held accountable.

P.S. Saying that a twelve year old should be held accountable for a cop killing him is very ignorant and I think that person should look at themselves and really figure out what warped their mind so much.

This. We know not all cops are bad, it isn't brand-new information. But the fact that 98% do care and do fulfill their pledge of protecting and serving does not negate those 2% that do indeed abuse their position.

But again, it's only my word.

I totally understand, and it is really nice to hear your dad's side and its admirable that they also agree that there are some cops who are power hungry trigger happy idiots.

I didn't want to come off as generalizing but it does seem like a majority or at least a very large minority of cops are really dirty and abusive of their power.

I feel bad that your dad and other good cops have to get lumped into the same category as them but public opinion needs to be strong when it comes to police. That way change and progress will happen. Although good cops will have to suffer training and other rules it is worth it to prevent more cops and future cops from taking innocent lives and abusing power.

But thanks for sharing your story it is nice to hear about one of the good ones. I have had experience with good cops but there are far to many bad experiences out there. I just hope that there will be laws and justice dealt so that people like your dad and other citizens don't have to suffer from these so called "police officers"
