People had long been doing that before Gaga. :koons:

Since when did people associate a red wig as a main attribute to an era (Riri's Loud) and since when was Candy a main attribute to an era (Katy's TD) the truth is things like these would have been perceived as low brow, tacky, cheap and unartistic cause it's taking away from the music but ever since Gaga came on to the scene with her outfits, it felt like it was a complete package the disco stick, the thunder bolt, the hand gestures, the hair bows, the latex, the crystalized glasses, the blood during the performances. It was all significant to tell the story of the album and was deemed artistic thus she broke this boundary where show business was not as vital this is what Gaga ment by saying she was doing ARTPOP ever since her career started , putting artistic value upfront with the music. Before Gaga artist haven't dared to push the boundaries of an era's definition and even if they did they didn't succeed, yes everything was distinctive before Gaga in terms of other artist's eras but they were evidently limited and it's pretty much a fact that Gaga has given Pop a new height.
