World "NEEDS" Next Technological REVOLUTION!

I think the next technological revolution will take place based around quantum mechanics, environmental care, and recycling resources...cause people tend to spend, and consume, and not really think about reusing products/resources. At least not enough....it's still limited....I mean computer parts, cellphones... in a short time span, people replace a lot of devices they use for newer ones...

I might sound kind of ridiculous but aren't today's smartphones kind of revolutionary? I mean for $200 you get a phone, a videocamera, an mp3 player, a very capable gaming console, an almost fully functional mini-computer.

No, it's not as revolutionary as we expect it to be but technology is definitely developing. We want to advance faster and further but that is not always as easy said than done.

technology is constantly advancing yes... but from time to time there are big leaps forward that really lowers business costs and increases productivity per worker big time

smart phones like u mention have a positive influence. but not enough to completely change businesses and productivity other than isntant messages or some personal organization among administrators etc. Its not something thats gonna change production all that much

Im a welder and at work we just got these new automatic machines that make many cuts and holes for us now in beams.n Theyve existed for 10 years already but are still super expensive and most companies cant afford them. My boss finally saved enough money to buy one. We dont have to waste time measuring and drilling with little drillers anymore. We literally make about 3X more beams per hours than last year without having hired anyone else (we didnt need to steal labor for those productivity gains)

also we can now offer our work for cheaper saving construction companies money as well.

Stuff like that is an example of a MAJOR revolution. But there needs to be something that affects the entire economy

And its true. it doesnt always come when we want it to come, but im just saying revolutions have historically led to short term bursts in economic growth, and its been awhile since weve had anything like that, over a decade since teh tech/information boom ended and since then there hasnt really been anything that big

some say "the internet of things" might be the next big economic driver we will have to see

I think energy savings will also help. Renewables are improving, and thanks to fracking boom oil is not surging anymore, in fact it fell big time. That affects everything

I believe the next technological revolution won't be for another time. The last revolution saw the massive rise in computer usage, internet usage, cellphone domination, and social media

Judging from past technological revolutions, the next revolution will either be based on working to make computer's more efficient and faster than before, which that would mainly benefit businesses and data retrieval than people who just surf the web, or there will be another communications boom like there was with the telegraph, the phone, and the cellphone

That's just my opinion, though

if they can recyle them for cheaper than it costs to extract more raw material, tha would be a very positive economic impact

if its not cheaper to recycle these parts but they do it just to help environment, then it wont help the economy, it will actually put pressure on it

although money isnt everything and environment must be considered also. But im just saying it all depends

improving renewable to be cheaper (cause right now they are still an expensive burden in relation to fossil fuels, and companies only build them with Government subsities to be competitive with fossil fuels) and recycling tho over the long term could be a great asset for the economy

the interesting thing tho is that often its not foreseable. Technologies or concepts that havent been thought of simply might not cross ur mind

but new concepts are usually the very things that have the biggest impact

how many people thought of talking isntantly on the phone before the 1920s? how many people thought of internet data base and computers before they were a thing? many people probably didnt and were surprised when it happened

As far as internet helping businesses more instead of individual surfers... you should check out the "internet of things" it has a lot of hype and some companies are investing heavily on it. We will see if its potential lives up to the hype tho :haha:

I think artificial intelligence/automation is the next technology revolution, but I also think it will change the entire dynamic of the economy.

It's estimated that half of all current jobs will be automated within 20 years. I'm sure by now most people in the US have a grocery store near them that use self-checkout lanes, Lowes is already testing robots that will be able to replace store workers, AP is using computer-generated articles that will begin taking Journalism jobs soon, almost every major auto manufacturer is now working on self-driving cars etc.

Of course, when automation takes over jobs, it also creates new jobs but I think it will produce far fewer jobs than it creates. The other problem is that the new jobs it creates tend to require more education and skill than the jobs it takes away. Those with only a high school diploma (60% of America) are already finding it difficult to find jobs compared to 20-30 years ago, what happens when a Walmart (or similar store) that once required hundreds of employees on the payroll now only needs a few dozen? What happens further on down the line where even jobs like doctors and lawyers are being threatened by automation? Many economists have talked about high unemployment being the "new normal" and I think it's only going to get worse with time.

that could be a potential issue

up until now all revolutions have led to grat gains in productivity without necessairily needing all jobs to be high tech

however now this could result in all new jobs needing high education

the problem here isnt productitivy going up and needing fewer workers for the same thing. that always happened in past revolutions but in the end it always pays off

i guess the difference this time is that although there would be new jobs, its the type of jobs which require so many technical expertise

the jobs are there but there is a serious mismatch. Many sectors actually have labor shortages... the jobs are there, technology has resulted in new types of jobs to replace the ones lost, but not enough people are qualified to take them

Here in Canada alone there is something like 300,000 to 400,000 chronically unfilled jobs because not enough people qualify for them. Yet people struggle to find work

I think a guidance system to guide people into working themselves to get into where they are actually needed would be good for both workers AND companies!!!

I do agree with you that we really want the next technological revolution to happen any time now, and we need it. But I can't actually guess where it could be. Perhaps it could be connected with renewable energy - it can become cheaper and more efficient. Oil companies won't like this though.

I read the other day two articles which I found interesting to say the least. The first one was about developing a new kind of battery which lasts longer and is extremely cheap to produce. If today's batteries last for a 1,000 cycles for example the new kind of battery would last at least 7,000. It doesn't change its shape in time and doesn't burst in flames if damaged. I think it was aluminum based, you can google it if you are curoius about it.

The second article was about improvement is renewable energy. A new "version" solar panel that collects more heat and produces more electricity than the one we already have.

Actually, as I come to think of it, a revolution in technology which produces electricity from the sun could really be the next big thing. Imagine every building having a roof covered in solar panels. If they improve the efficiency, 2-storey houses would be able to get enough electricity only from the panels. It would be very good for the environment, too.

Personally, I want a lot of cures to long-known diseases to be found. I want cure for cancer (it's probably impossible to cure all kinds of cancer at the same time but still), AIDS and other incurable diseases to be commercially available for everyone. For example I have IBS and I really want it to be cured in the future. My symptoms are not as severe as other people's that I've read or met but it definitely is something that can and most likely will destroy your life.

yeah. was it concentrated solar panels? ive read about that

The advantage of that would be that wed get cheaper electricity which would be of benefit for everyone, and cause a surge in investment on the renewable technology

Too bad it will only work in some areas. Here in Canada that might work during the summer. But how about in the winter when 60% to 70% or more of the day is dark? we only have light from 7am to 4:30pm in my area in december for example. Not very reliable.

I see the potential for soem areas there

The other thing is by reducing need for oil, it makes oil cheaper... and since oil is also used for all kidns of other things (roof shingles, plastics, asphalt, fertilizers, petro-chemicals etc) it would indirectly also lower the cost of petro based products which would result in huge savings for everyone

High oil prices are bad. I dont find it a coincidence that oil prices surged in spring/summer of 2008 and by september 2008 we had a full blown financial crisis. It may not have been the root cause of the great recession, but it put a lot of pressure in an already weak economy and kind of kicked it when it was already down.

Yeah I read it too, and you can charge it in 1 minute. They still had to work on it though.

I think that there won't be a 'big' revolution. Perhaps a little bit more automatisation here and there.

The biggest potential is in a different patenting system, which makes people able to use others' innovations and build from there. I also expect some kind of industrial revolution to take place in Africa, like it has happened in East-Asia the past 30 years or so. In China I can see some sort of labour/democratic movement happening for more rights for the people, resulting in manufacturers moving to poorer countries like Ethiopia (by the way, H&M shirts are already being made in Ethiopia).

For me, 1% growth is completely fine. I think that the amount of richness is already good enough in west-Europe and North-America. Most people don't necessarily need even more money. It's better to use money on other factors that contribute to the well-being of the citizens of your country, like environment/nature, healthcare, education, media/freedom, safety and such.

I think a system with better wealth distribution might help. The economy may be wealthy and prosperous in western world but far too mamy people struggle

i still say simply taxing the rich by stuffing ur hands in the rich ppls pockets and giving it away to poor people is too straight forward and can backfire in many ways. I dont think socialism is the true answer

at the same Capitalism will only work in this regard if given enough time to result in the business investment and hiring nevessairy to result in low unemployment and high competition for labor. Its becoming more and more clear the modern generation hates rich ppl too mich to give that strategy we had up till the 1970s to 1980s in the US a chance ever again

im not sure what the answer is... But whatever economic growth we get regardless of where its from, it needs to be more equal
