  1. 1. Are you here for a concept album featuring a character played by Gaga?

    • Yes! That would be awesome!
    • Umm... No thanks... I'll pass on this idea.

I'm not going to limit this to the next album, because people might potentially like the idea but have a different set of expectations for her next release.

How would you feel if Gaga created a specific character for a future album? During The Fame era people were intrigued by Gaga and many believed that she was just a persona and character created by some girl called Stefani Germanotta. They soon found out that this larger-than-life character was actually Stefani herself, Gaga was just a nickname of sorts.

Her idol David Bowie famously developed the Ziggy Stardust character by melding the persona of Iggy Pop with the music of Lou Reed and adding his own personal touch to much acclaim. This construction became the ultimate pop idol of sorts, the realisation of  the ultimate rock star.

Gaga herself has lightly explored such a thing before, especially in Paparazzi/Telephone. Although they retained their names, Lady Gaga and Beyonce transported us into a completely different reality, where Lady Gaga was a famous star who murdered her boyfriend and went to jail and where Beyonce drove a *** Wagon to bail her out of jail.

I think such creations are exciting. There aren't really any limits when you are dealing with fiction, it creates a playground for the artist to use all their craziest ideas and a way for them to create their very own world.

While commercial success really isn't the goal, I do think that a lot of Gaga's initial success was related to this story telling. The themes of Paparazzi and Telephone greatly influenced The Monster Ball and helped to create a sense of mystery about who Gaga was and what she was like. This alternative world she created was exciting and fascinating.

So would you be interested in a concept album featuring an altered version of Lady Gaga, or a completely new character in itself (See: Candy Warhol, Yuyi, Jo for past references on her various characters)? Or would you prefer her future work to be centered more in her reality?

Maybe in a very loose way, but we are really talking about something a little more fleshed out, concise and consistent.

I'm praying she at one point pulls off a Janelle Monae caliber of an album with a ton of tracks, a consistent plot, and a character of some sort. I'd be so happy.

Amen to this. I need polished, well put together, stimulating visuals. I just need cohesiveness and a strong theme.

I feel like with ARTPOP she tried to do everything on her own (yes obvi she did some colabs) but she needs to colaborate again with other strong visual artists like she used to (Nick Knight, Jonas Åkerlund, etc) and avant garde fashion designers .. Tbh I still pray for the return of Nicola

I really dont need her to pull a Sasha Fierce :awkney:

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

Yes, all very shallow.

Her strongest/most consistent was TFM, but I'm talking about an actual concept album. The development of a character and a story that unravels and adds layers throughout an entire era - not just for a single video or performance.

Gaga as Venus wasn't as much Gaga as a character, and more so an extension and highlight of the qualities shared between the two. Gaga embodied Venus, but she didn't really pretend to be Venus.
Look at the Applause video, it made reference to Venus, and she used the iconography of Venus to create a particular message.

The You and I video is as an example I used in OP of how she has created characters in the past, but the universe in which these characters existed was small. It wasn't fleshed out.

Are you talking Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon type of character?  I'd like something like that.
