Jjang 2,262
These blanket statements against white people does include us since we are white. It's the same thing as if I made a blanket statement against black people. I may just be addressing a minority of them, but I do not properly specify who it is then I'm just being racist. Sorry if I'm not making sense. For example, when Azealia speaks about corporate white America and **** I know she isn't talking about me but sometimes when she makes blanket statements it comes across as she is coming for all whites in America. It's just communication between races about racial issues that needs to be worked on. The animosity and blanket statements won't get us anywhere as a country let alone the world as a whole. The fact that its done unconsciously doesn't make it okay or not racist, its actually worse because it reflects on the kind of society and 'system' we've been living according to. bigpinkenergy 1,050
No need to get insulting. I have never heard of Oreo and Shaniqua the way you're describing them. Doesn't mean that you're wrong, not at all. All I was saying was that the people there don't mean any harm and, if you would actually take the time to read before you judge, don't even know it's offensive to some people. 'Oreo' is being used because of how much we love the sweets, not because some narrow minded people use it to bully innocent black people. I do agree that Shaniqua may sound disrespectful the way you are putting it, but I also have to remind you that it's just a name. There are memes with white women and I don't see anyone complaining about their 'white names'. Racism is very much alive, I am not denying that. I've been active in an online group where we a--lyze and discuss racial issues, primarily in the USA, and some of your arguments from a few pages earlier were incredibly good. And please, if you're going to reply, do it with mutual respect. I don't know why it is so hard for certain members to be nice and have a discussion like adults. I never said that I disrespect your position because, believe it or not, I find your points to be very thought provoking. Maybe try to be more respectful the next time someone tries to state their opinion.Insulting? Where did I insult you. Where did I say something that was unlike an adult response. Please, tell me. Did I come off as rude? Well sorry, but you told me I was spreading false information, so I corrected you and gave you some receipts too.I find it amusing you're telling me to take the time to read before I judge, when you literally have just said you have never heard of anyone use the words 'Oreo' and 'Shaniqua' in a racial context before. Yeah, it's just a biscuit and yeah it's just a name, but in the real world, I'm sorry that's not how those words are used. Especially not here, and certainly not in that thread.i am sick and tired of reading responses that downplay these things because members here enjoy using them. You had fun with the thread, great, I get it. Maybe can you open your eyes a little and realise what was really going on there now?
Morphine Prince 109,679
Idk much about this issue but since I see some of you talking about how blacks and whites act I'll share a story. So my two cousins go to a private school and one of my cousins said "We have black kids at my school but they aren't ghetto" and I asked "But they aren't ghetto?" and she said "Yeah, you know, they act white" And I'm like "So acting educated and proper is 'white'? And she's like "Well, you know how they are" This really bothered me because apparently not acting white or in fact not being white is somehow seen as degrading by even minorities! I am Latino and I've been told I act "white" because I value education Minorities are also destroying themselves by letting these stereotypes get to us. And when I say "white acting" I don't mean like the stereotypical white iPhone owning, Starbucks loving girl/baseball player, nice car owning, private college attending guy. Simply being called "white" for BEING DECENT.
Supersonic 49,376
Yeah I get the whole majority vs minority thing. I just don't like the whole "white people" are the issue mentality. I feel like there are people in the white majority that believe in and practice equality and it's not okay to blanket them. In fact, I feel like it hinders a lot of whites from standing besides blacks in their fight against racism. The frustration can be really ugly, look at the Ferguson riots for example. As a white person I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that. I see how much pain they feel, but I'm scared it will be taken out on me instead of the actual people who cause it simply because I share a skin color with those bigots. There are a lot of white protestors in ferguson as well. If u ain't got a police jacket on, you'd probably be more than welcome there. In my opinion it's not just racist people who are the problem. It's the people who don't know any better as well. Like in 7th grade these white dudes in my class referred to each other as the n-word. They had no clue what it really meant, they just thought it was an affectionate term that guys use like "dude", "son" or "bro".We gotta admit that it's not just the people actively being racist, to a lesser extent it's also the people who might just don't know that they are quite insensitive. We don't need to bomb them or slit them open, words are quite enough to give somebody the notion that they are doing sth that is insensitive/crude. The problem is that so many people get really defensive about their behavior even though they know they are in the wrong.

Guest
As a person who comes from and lives in Lithuania, it's really hard for me to say anything about this topic, as there are basically no POC living in here. I mean, there are some, but not many, so I cannot tell how it all is. I mean, racist jokes and some stereotypical things are alive in here, as this country was still held tight by the uncivilized USSR 25 years ago, but, such things as cultural appropriation aren't even questioned in here, as there are no POC living in here, and the ones that are, well, they are treated as most people that come from here. Or so I hope. Now, to get back on point: I honestly don't know what to say about the gays-appropriating-black-ladies thing. I mean, if the black women do feel offended by it, then I honestly have no problem not doing what they might find offensive.

Simply being called "white" for BEING DECENT. I'm really not educated when it comes to racial issues so anything I say is just from my own persceptive. I agree that minorities really are keeping themselves down. Just look at hip-hop culture and how it glorifies murder and gangbanging. I feel bad for those like Yung Rapunxel who want to escape that, but are pressured by their peers into staying in it. I do like some hip-hop but there are serious issues with it imo. Especially when hip-hop is being equated to black. It definitely enforces stereotypes and there are so many people who are clinging onto those stereotypes it creates. Computer 10,980
Guys, we didn't even realise. Oscar has been spilling the tea the whole time. Because lesbeans are woman, and can be black, and are "gay", then they're the only ones who don't appropriate every culture because they are every culture. I am every icon teas. Oscar was right all along because he, is a lesbean. 💚💛💕❣⭕💢💢 | ⓜⓔⓡⓡⓨ ©ⓗⓡⓘⓢⓣⓜⓐⓢ
kya 2
It's one thing to do something without realizing that it's offensive. It's completely different (and WRONG) to continue doing it, after a whole group of people has just told you it offends them. I don't understand. It doesn't matter if you find it fun. You're hurting someone and you're aware of it. Everything is wrong with that situation. Bette Davis 12,742
Honestly movements like this are what are actually doing harm. They're basically driving a wedge between white gay men and black women. Also this is grossly stereotypical.. it's assuming all gay white men appropriate and act like black women? I find this extremely offensive and stereotypical. And about white and male privilege, excuse me but gay men are still not able to get married in many places, make less than equally-qualified straight men, are routinely discriminated against, etc. They are not protected by law in all states, unlike black women. It also accuses ones culture of being stolen by another group? People hate racism but are still so insistent on sorting people/culture into stereotypical groups. People need to stop trying to create divisions and dragging down other groups. Every group has their problems and obstacles and should support each other. Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. When it comes to the n-word I feel like less white people would be using it if nobody (not even blacks) used it as an affectionate term and it just became condemned like fa ggot is. If it wasn't enforced so excessively in hip-hop as a term for dude then the only way it would be used is in a racist way. Then only the racists would use it. I feel like not only are white people to blame for racism but so are blacks. I don't know if I make any sense and I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that. It's a bit complex though because hip hop culture was made by blacks due to experiences of living in poverty, etc. and has developed into music, fashion, pop culture etc. and even though it is part of black American culture, it should not be what defines the entire race. To me it's a subculture that was created. The issue arises when other races like to label blacks as all these things and even blacks feel they need to act this way to be black. I have a black friend who got told to "stop talking white" because he wouldn't use African American Vernacular English (AAVE). Minorities themselves also hurt themselves when they let these stereotypes created by others get to them.

I am glad you 'corrected' me. I like reflecting actions and growing intellectually, and spiritually. So thank you. What you just said about the way we used to spread all the memes of black women is something I agree with - all I said was that said thread is not what it used to be. It's become a place where certain members exchange their lives. Where members can talk about what's on their minds. It's really just like a café where we meet up and chat. Also, where am I downplaying your points? I literally just said that I find your arguments to be brilliant. And I don't understand why you're amused by the fact that I didn't know how these words were used on the streets and in school? I do read and I do listen, and I still didn't know how native speakers use 'Oreo' and 'Shaniqua.'
