I had that feeling when my friends used to joke that I was fat. I know it's not the same, but I laughed along while believing it it's such a horrible position to be in. You cannot always confront people irl, and even less if there's more than one person doing something that you feel is wrong. Yeah which I agree she did it right but the guy in the video is the type that will constantly whine but yet call other people "fat" and "ugly". My best friend is black and we talk about these things all the time. It's crazy how white washed everything is and you don't even realise, but that's just because we've been brought up with it and we perceive it as normal. So yeah, the equivalent to what some would call an oreo). It sucks because the only way I'll be considered black is if I drop to the floor, play a trap hop song, twerk, swear and live in the ghetto. The sheer racism of it all. I can relate, I remember being judged for not listening to enough rap didn't they got it from they mothers/grandmothers? It's crazy how white washed everything is and you don't even realise, but that's just because we've been brought up with it and we perceive it as normal.I remember seeing a documentary about racism, it was like a project or something when they tested people white people/poc, it was cray. It's used as an insult, it's used to bully kids in high school who are trying to fit in. Do you know why Shaniqua is funny? Because its a stereotypical black, ghetto, ratchet name. And black, ghetto, ratchet women are HILARIOUS lately. 'False info' please No need to get insulting. I have never heard of Oreo and Shaniqua the way you're describing them. Doesn't mean that you're wrong, not at all. All I was saying was that the people there don't mean any harm and, if you would actually take the time to read before you judge, don't even know it's offensive to some people. 'Oreo' is being used because of how much we love the sweets, not because some narrow minded people use it to bully innocent black people. I do agree that Shaniqua may sound disrespectful the way you are putting it, but I also have to remind you that it's just a name. There are memes with white women and I don't see anyone complaining about their 'white names'. Racism is very much alive, I am not denying that. I've been active in an online group where we a--lyze and discuss racial issues, primarily in the USA, and some of your arguments from a few pages earlier were incredibly good. And please, if you're going to reply, do it with mutual respect. I don't know why it is so hard for certain members to be nice and have a discussion like adults. I never said that I disrespect your position because, believe it or not, I find your points to be very thought provoking. She looks me dead in the eye and says "You probably like rap, right? How about you do a little rap for us? *does weird arm gestures in a "thug"esque manner". And as a Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Marina and The Diamond stan I just look at her and tell her "I don't listen to rap. EVER. " And all my friends awkney'd with me. She proceeded to ask a different black person to rap. Mess. At the time, I didn't stan for Azealia. I had that feeling when my friends used to joke that I was fat. Cody Draco 2,531 Posted April 5, 2015 Share Posted April 5, 2015 I see where you are coming from, but when somebody from a minority makes a blanket statement about the majority it's quite a different sentiment from the majority making a blanket statement about the minority. The first one stems more from a place of frustration and not being able to live freely and happily, while the second one stems more from a place of being disgusted by a whole subset of people. I agree that both are quite problematic, but the latter is imo worse and not acceptable under any circumstances. Yeah I get the whole majority vs minority thing. I just don't like the whole "white people" are the issue mentality. I feel like there are people in the white majority that believe in and practice equality and it's not okay to blanket them. In fact, I feel like it hinders a lot of whites from standing besides blacks in their fight against racism. The frustration can be really ugly, look at the Ferguson riots for example. As a white person I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that. I see how much pain they feel, but I'm scared it will be taken out on me instead of the actual people who cause it simply because I share a skin color with those bigots. I'm speaking from my "GP" perspective by the way, but I still think my perspective is valuable as is everyone's whether they are educated on racial issues or not. But there were also a sprinkling of white (poor) people- a sort of minority in themselves, who were also heavily entrenched in that culture and helped to build it. Yeah, and the black minority in Finland is really small and I live in such a small place that there don't live any people here besides white So whenever race discussion comes out in GGD I just feel so uneducated.
