i don't mean to sound rude but i think all this appropriation thing develops from America, bc i've literally never heard of someone here in Europe even use the term cultural appropriation or anything.

Both sides imo really need to just be open to each other instead of drawing battle lines based on "oh em gee ur copying me"

I think it's an american thing because America has all kinds of people here from different cultures.

hop on that **** like a maniac

I understand the issue with that. :flop:

I was just trying to point out that people these days are fighting stereotypes with stereotypes. Live and let live. There wouldn't be any of these issues if people were more secure in themselves.

I feel like it's very easy for people to ignore the reality when they're the ones having fun, you know? If you said something that the whole forum found funny and I found offensive, the general consensus would be that I was the person in the wrong. That's what is happening in this entire debate, even beyond the forum. I see your point, but how can people feel secure in themselves when people are manipulating entire cultures (and for many people, culture runs alongside identity) to mock them? I just wish people would open their eyes more.

I wasn't referring at everyone transforming into literally the same thing :awkney:  but really... I'm getting tired of this "x appropriated idk what culture" ... Especially of people like Azealia Banks who pretends to "fight for equality" by calling every white people racist yet she states that she "hates white American fat people" or something like that and that all "black men are taking women for granted " and since she started all the bull**** with Iggy Azalea by stating that she was racist by scrolling through her ancient tweets and keep saying that she's appropriating black culture , everyone started acting like Social Justice Warriors...idk , at least , that's my point of view and this annoys me the most ...like everyone starting to accuse everyone for appropriating black culture when some people simply admire black people / culture but who cares...it's fun to act like Justice warriors :awkney:

She didn't start posting the racist tweets from Iggy Azalea tho lol it was twitter/tumblr people who did it after years. She did say azalea was racist because she mocked her culture with that accent and her whole act/persona.

People should worry about their own lives in my opinion. You're not gonna get far in life for being a sensitive dumb ass constantly looking for stuff to b---h about especially over really silly things like this.

To you personally it may appear as "silly" but to a black women, it must hurt to have your attitude seen as "ratchet" but when a white gay person takes your culture and makes it their own, and then on top of that, are praised for being "fierce!".

Do you remember that Oreo coco thread mess or nah :flop:

I do agree with you in certain points, but please do not spread any false info. The Oreolicious Thread isn't all about appropriating black women. :spin:

It's picking random people, regardless of their skin color and ethnicity, and turning them into memes. It has nothing to do with trying to be a part of their culture.

Yeah because Europe in general is completely oblivious about anything insensitive they do. If u ain't Dutch or are interested in cultural studies you probably have never heard about Zwarte Piet, the white sidekick of Santa Claus in black face that acts like a monkey.

Pretending like we are all that sophisticated and free in Europe when we are the root of the actual problem. I see UK people be like "oh the USA is so racist, our country is so much better" when the UK was the country that f*cking started enslaving black people and exploiting the entire world. Every country that participated in Colonalization is guilty of it. :awkney:

i never said we were better at all & i never said the US was racist (they have a black president for crying out loud) & if u wanna be historically technical colonization was started by the Spanish bc Christopher Columbus & the Portuguese were the ones who began the slave trade fyi

I, however, don't see how manierism is such a big deal. Humans adopting manierism from someone they admire is nature. However, there's a difference between stating "i have a black women inside of me" and screaming "YAAAS" "QUEEEN" and making a b---hface.

I want recipes on where this whole "sass" acting started though.

This. This. This.

The whole "I'm a fierce black woman, I'm Beyonce." routine needs to stop. I think the way in which many woman are condemning the lgbt community is wrong though. Just because a gay is b---hy doesn't mean that they are "acting black". If they state that they are then that lends itself to racism. If they are just b---hy because they are b---hy then that's all it is. Any race can be b---hy. It's not exclusive to anyone. Just like any race can be rich. Any race can be racist. :smh:

Yes, but you don't live alone in this world, you have to interact with people all the time.

You could be right but you could also be the one in the wrong too.

so do we in the UK tbf but the majority of our generation is accepting of these cultures and the racist views come from older generations normally

You do realize we can zoom out and look at the bigger picture and discuss things on a bigger scale, right? this topic is only presented in this form mostly because its not complicated to grasp mentally.

Yes that is true, that's why I said all countries parttaking in colonalization are guilty for what is happening now in the US. It wasn't really directed to you, it was more of a general statement. Because I see a lot of people on tumblr especially being really snobby about coming from the UK (also Canada).

ALSO there is a difference between KNOWING your roots...'I got this from Paris is Burning' is completely different to 'my inner sassy black lady is coming out yall call me shaniqua!!!!11'

there's two types of responses in this thread: those who have done their research and those who follow the popular opinion, and side with those who did their research to make their ignorance seem valid.

I understand your argument, and I believe it comes from a good place, but saying this trivialises all issues of discrimination and equality.

Equality is NOT the idea that we should all be the same, but that we should all be TREATED the same.

To do as you say, to blend all cultures into one, dogmatic and overarching culture which supersedes all others is a discredit to the uniqueness of all cultures, and this applies to all aspects of social characteristics and identity.

To end s-xism, should we combine all s-xes and genders together? Would that end transphobia too?

Doing so, even in a hypothetical situation which I'm using to make a point, rejects who we are, telling us that we should all be seen the same.

Don't look at someone and say "Oh, I don't see race". ACKNOWLEDGE their race and say "I'm going to treat you like everyone else". If we stop seeing things like race, s-x, gender, s-xual identity or orientation then we practically tell people that their identity needs to be unseen.

Cultural appropriation cannot be carried out by the minority, only by the majority. If the minority takes from the majority, that is cultural assimilation.

While LGBTQ individuals are the minority, I think the "white male" versus "black female" still places this firmly in the state of cultural appropriation.

:lmao:

do you even know what Oreo means? It's a person of one colour who tries to act the other race. Usually a black person trying to act white. It's used as an insult, it's used to bully kids in high school who are trying to fit in.

Do you know why Shaniqua is funny? Because its a stereotypical black, ghetto, ratchet name. And black, ghetto, ratchet women are HILARIOUS lately.

'False info' please
