Andreyw 4,285
This whole appropriation thing became really stupid and annoying lately...like everything that moves is an appropriation of something for racism to not exist anymore , people should combine all the cultures altogether to end all racism (but of course there would might be few devils who'd try to stir **** )
gagzus 24,099
I swear lately white people lately think taking an important part of a minorities's culture and adding their own twist to it is but not giving credit to their original inspiration is the most fun thing ever. It works both ways. appropriation in general just appears childish bc it's literally people complaining that someone is copying them like nnnnnn we ain't gonna do a Gaga-esque speech about how inspired we were by black people every time we use a sassy attitude & being black isn't a minority bc a large percentage of the world's population is black
Cody Draco 2,531
Oh so it's okay for black and latin gay men to adopt stereotypical black female mannerisms but not white gay men? That's not discriminatory at all.
SISTERV 3,887
EXACTLY! i mean yes it was a tragic event, i feel extremely bad & i would never dare to be hateful towards ANYONE due to their race & i support them in their fight back against racism. That being said, why do they assume they aren't privileged as opposed to a lot of other black people in the world, when they live in the first world, where they have the freedom to even voice their negative opinions towards government & police brutality, and they have homes & jobs & money as opposed to say; the majority of Africa's populationI just feel like the culture in America has told the past three generations of black people that they are just victims and should be owed stuff, and more recently the government is just doing it to everyone. We all should just hate eachother and be mad about "appropriation" I guess rather than bond with our fellow black beauties I guess, tho, because it's "politically incorrect". Tropico 4,145
Mess. I live in a predominant African American neighborhood and most of my friends ARE black. Okay, I'm not saying you don't, but, just because you have black friends doesn't mean you have a "get away with appropriation free" card. This generation is the most f*cked. Not really tbh. this is the generation who are most willing to accept equality as a whole. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

bigpinkenergy 1,050
The ignorance in this thread obviously you all think this cultural appropriation talk is irrelevant to you, and is far fetched, because you're the ones having fun with it. You're the ones at fault. Do I even have to bring up the whole coco Oreo shaniqua thread whatever the f*ck it was called...it's actually disgusting. And now you guys won't even listen to the other side of the story, because it's 'stupid and annoying'. Ok.
Tropico 4,145
so only black women can talk that way? Since when did someone own a language style? I don't even really understand what is so bad about appropriation all the time. I mean.....if we really wanted to talk about appropriation look at EVERY female in the game since 1940. It didn't matter if those girls were black, white, hispanic, asian, or whatever......they all had a gay backstage telling them what was cool. Everyone from Madonna to Beyonce to Lady Gaga to Britney Spears has appropriated gay culture and usually we celebrate it, why are these black girls getting all pressed? It's usually because we admire them. Admiration and appropriation are two different things tho. You can admire something without having to take it and try make it your thing. ;shrug: ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢

xoxo cupcakke 4,781
Why Is Every Word In The Title Of This Thread With A Capital? Because that is how you write a title... It would be incorrect if it was written with all but one word in lowercase Do you even English bruh? JK. But yeah, titles should be capitalized in English except for articles like "a", "an", and "the" and transitives like "are", "was", "is" and "were"

Both sides imo really need to just be open to each other instead of drawing battle lines based on "oh em gee ur copying me"
Leo 3,000
This whole appropriation thing became really stupid and annoying lately...like everything that moves is an appropriation of something for racism to not exist anymore , people should combine all the cultures altogether to end all racism (but of course there would might be few devils who'd try to stir **** ) I understand your argument, and I believe it comes from a good place, but saying this trivialises all issues of discrimination and equality. Equality is NOT the idea that we should all be the same, but that we should all be TREATED the same. To do as you say, to blend all cultures into one, dogmatic and overarching culture which supersedes all others is a discredit to the uniqueness of all cultures, and this applies to all aspects of social characteristics and identity. To end s-xism, should we combine all s-xes and genders together? Would that end transphobia too? Doing so, even in a hypothetical situation which I'm using to make a point, rejects who we are, telling us that we should all be seen the same. Don't look at someone and say "Oh, I don't see race". ACKNOWLEDGE their race and say "I'm going to treat you like everyone else". If we stop seeing things like race, s-x, gender, s-xual identity or orientation then we practically tell people that their identity needs to be unseen. It's not like it could possibly offend them. Nobody ever said that minorties can't have their history, their traditions and their beliefs, but to say that you as a group 'own' mannerisms and sass? No TY sis, I'll carry on doing what I'm doing without worrying about this social copyright

bigpinkenergy 1,050
ALSO there is a difference between KNOWING your roots...'I got this from Paris is Burning' is completely different to 'my inner sassy black lady is coming out yall call me shaniqua!!!!11'there's two types of responses in this thread: those who have done their research and those who follow the popular opinion, and side with those who did their research to make their ignorance seem valid.
