Melech 9,900
" BRUSSELS—German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen on Friday threw her weight behind the idea of a European Union army, floated by European Commission President Jean-Claude Junckerearlier this month. “I am convinced that a European army or a European defense union can be created as a logical consequence of European integration,” Ms. von der Leyen said during the Brussels Forum, a foreign-policy conference in Brussels. “Europe will only stay politically relevant in the future if we are able to complement our economic power and our political influence with a truly coherent security and defense policy,” she added. To critics who say that such a defense initiative would undermine the existing North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Ms. von der Leyen pointed out that the U.S. routinely asks for more responsibility to be taken by their European allies in terms of capabilities and military spending. “I want to underline that the times have passed in which there was a difference between European and NATO thinking,” Ms. von der Leyen said. hmm 979
Why do we really need to stay politically relevant though - the countries that are most highly regarded seem to be those that don't involve themselves in international politics so much. The arrogance of it all in an attempt to cement European dominance is boring tbh

Even if a united European state was a goal it's not all that necessary really; if you take "united" to mean different things. I'm not sure where you're getting this threat for global dominance by any communist state anyway - nor would a single European army even help with this. If a major threat arose; the two major militaries of the EU (the UK and France) would obviously work alongside their NATO partners.

Of course you would be against it, you're from the uk.

Didymus 34,380
I doubt that not having a unified army will destroy Europe's future political relevance.

I was joking. Sad if you didn't got it.2. Of course China is. And even if not, they are growing and I don't want them to "rule" the world 3. So? Nato is useless. I don't recall Chinese politicians making claims for world dominance (or where this EU thing would be concerned; something relating to europe) - I could be wrong on that though3. There's nothing to say this would be any less "useless" though.
