If Judas was never a single would the GP still love Gaga?

Judas has nothing to do with the love of the GP. Actually, Judas did well even with the controversy, the song was a bop (at least in my country), the video is great, ...

The problem was the release of TEOG as a promotional single. Indeed, TEOG sold well on iTunes and Gaga's label decided to rush TEOG release as a single. Less than a month after the release of Judas they released TEOG as the 3rd single. How could Judas prove itself with less than a month ?

Tbh I think if ARTPOP was released after TFM it would have smashed. And if BTW was released when ARTPOP was it would have been a hit era.

Probably on Grindr

If ARTPOP would've happened before BTW the GP would still love Gaga, or at least more than they did in early 2014.

Judas was the most iconic video from the BTW. I thank Gaga for that. The GP can suck a d*ck at this point :bunny:

Yes, I've heard it said that the release of Judas ended Gaga's golden age. She's had hits since, but it was never truly the same after.

This. ARTPOP as the follow-up of TFM instead an DWUW as lead single and people would've probably still sucking Gaga's big donkey ****.

Judas was a hiccup.... Not a one off career suicide move

However, the overall era would've perhaps lasted longer and been more sucessful if it was replaced with Scheisse, Hair, Heavy Metal Lover, etc...

It comes down to the music.

What most fans don't understand is that people have always thought of Gaga as some outlandish character that is borderline annoying sometimes, but she ALWAYS delivered the bops.

People will see past the "shtick" if they like the music. But the BTW-Judas combo was enough of a hiccup for a lot of people to stop paying attention. I had a bit of a meltdown when I heard Judas in full for the first time and, in hindsight, I really know why now. I didn't like Born This Way the song and it was obvious to me that a lot of people around me and on the internet thought the song sucked too. The reason why it sold so much is because Gaga had a lot of people paying attention to her at the time... a lot of people who normally wouldn't pay attention to pop music or even consider going on itunes to buy a song. She was a cultural phenomenon... the must-see show of the year. But it was clear to EVERYONE - I don't care wtf you think - that Born This Way the single was a let down (despite the fact that it was #1 for 6 weeks). It was not played at any party I went to and people tended to change the station when it came up on radio. To this day, I see much of the fanbase appreciate it more for nostalgia and moral reasons, rather than for the song itself.

So, when Judas came out, it was sort of like a last hope situation. For anyone who was following Gaga on the internet at the time, you all remember how much people were counting on Judas to be that typical Gaga bop that would go viral like Bad Romance or Telephone, but it didn't. Yeah, it went top 10, but that's only because it was a pre-album release. Despite growing audience impressions on radio, Judas kept tumbling down on the charts.

Gaga needed an ultra hit after Born This Way, but instead she released a cheesy flop. I doubt TEOG would've been a huge hit as the 2nd single, but would have gone #1 and wouldn't have caused the damage that Judas did. The second single release had a lot more hype than the first promo single release... which says a lot about Judas.

I personally believe Scheisse or Heavy Metal Lover were the smash hits Gaga needed for the second single, but if they weren't then no song on BTW was... not Marry The Night and DEFINITELY not Hair.

While Judas definitely hurt her image as the unstoppable pop hit-maker since it was her first single regarded by most, if not all, as a commercial flop, regardless if its run as a single was short-lived, it however didn't stop the 'GP' or the majority of the music consumers to 'love' Gaga in the form of commercial support. How so? The release of Judas didn't stop them to still buy TEOG, Y&I, and most recently, Applause - all of which have crossed the 2M mark in digital sales. Yes, I'd say the 'love' is still there, but no longer as strong or as much as those times in 2009 and 2010.

Now, would it change if Judas was never released as a single? Yes, I think so too, but only in terms of her receiving a warmer commercial reception in 2011. It won't however change the fact Gaga suffered an injury which forced her to cancel a tour, be separated with her manager afterwards, be unfairly compared with a fellow female pop star at her peak, and then experienced some form of depression caused by the split and other drama behind the scenes.
