Woman wears feminist T-Shirt, gets death & rape threats, has personal address leaked onto the internet

I wore this shirt to the bar last night. I received noticeably more distasteful looks from women than I did from men. One woman went as far as to make eye contact with me and shake her head disapprovingly. And for a brief moment I sat on my bar stool and felt embarrassed, like I had made a mistake by announcing I’m just as good or bad as any man here. I had broken the unspoken rule and people were noticing. While drinking my scotch and feeling mildly insecure, it hit me in the heart. I was embarrassed for walking into a room wearing a shirt that establishes ‘I believe women* deserve equality and I fight for them’. There is NOTHING in this statement to be ashamed of. Upon this affirmation, I suffocated my self-doubt and my evening was reborn. I complimented the head shaking woman on my way out of the bar and a look of genuine flattery with a hint of guilt washed over her face. Spread love, compassion and the concept of ‘no lesser person’ to all. And fight the ****ing patriarchy every chance given.

Two years later she added this:

Hey looks it’s the post that got me disembowlment, death and rape threats. An anti-feminist blogger publish[ed] [sic!] my home address. 4chan shared this post and attacked my blog. Someone sent my boss a link to this. I shut down a 20k blog out of fear that someone would comb through it and find more details on me I thoughtlessly posted. Sharing this experience two years ago introduced me to some wonderful women but also validated how scary the internet can be, how nasty threatened men can be, and how badly we still need feminism. Stay safe and stay smart on the internet!

You beat me to it. And all those people, even on this damn site, who say "all these Tumblr feminists are crazy and overreact!1!!1"  

She simply wore a shirt expressing her views on the basic right to equality of the s-xes and she received death threats. THIS is why we still need feminism. Because a girl has to be careful of what she wears for her own sake or face the risk of getting raped by ****ing disgusting little pigs.  

Her own damn home address. The world is still a sick, vile and disgusting place. The day we don't need the concept of feminism anymore is when a woman can wear anything and feel 100% safe. And even then, there'll still be 1262862920292621 reasons we need feminism.

 

I am truly disgusted. This will probably discourage her from ever wearing the shirt again and that's a terrible thing. It should be a perfectly normal thing for a woman - or anyone for that matter - to wear this shirt.

 

And there's the woman who gave her that look. For centuries people fought for her to have the right to sit and have a drink with a man instead of having to serve the drink. I CANNOT at her.  Basically all anti-feminist should feel disgusted by themselves. How do you wake up and feel good knowing that you threatened to rape/kill a girl because of a shirt.
