i think jessie j is a better vocalist, she has more range, but in the sense of artistry than gaga is the best

there are obivously better dancers bc gaga isnt a very good dancer we all know that

ide say marina is a better song writer, i dont think gaga is a very good songwriter imo

So if the Oscars would have given Jessie J the opportunity to sing the Sound of Music medley, do you think she would have done a much better job than Gaga since you believe she has more range and is a better vocalist?

Please don't see this as an attack, I'm curious to know what you think.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

Marina might be better with verses, but Gaga is immeasurably better at hooks and choruses.

I dont think every artist approaches songwriting this way though... some don't go at it with the intent of "I want a killer hook about ____" and they just write and decide what is going to make the best hook, rather than looking for it in the lyrics. Also sometimes lyrics are written AROUND music or a pre existing beat (Gaga does it too sometimes) This seems somewhere in between song writing and general musicianship or a good ear for melody. I think that Gaga and Marina both have a fabulous ear for melody in their music... but Gaga uses more auxillary functions to create a hook or a chorus. Marina tends to rely on her voice and harmonies with her own voice for those things where as Gaga does things like backup vocals, instrumental hooks, and vocal hooks that arent really "lyrics" or just 1 repeated lyric. (see Bad Romance, Judas, etc.) Marina uses her own voice as harmony and voicing and i think while not as experimental, it often does her a lot of good because she has such a well mixed voice. Her upper range soprano is piercing but distinct and her lower range is almost raspy but so well controlled and she goes in between them soo ridiculously well. In that regard, I think her self-harmonizing makes for great diversity because shes always showing off her voice's range. Sometimes more mainstream pop artists DO echoes and harmonizing but they often put them a lot further in the background. Sometimes its just because the production is busy though that it can get washed away. For example, Venus has amazing synths that are barely audible and the upper harmonic vocals in the 2nd and 3rd chorus are more interesting to the ear than the main melody, but they aren't as apparent. Gaga definitely knows it though, because she would occassionally sing them up there.

I think Marina and Gaga are probably equal song writers, both have great messages and can be very introspective, as well as subtly or bluntly political and make great metaphors, etc.

This became a rant, im sorry :air:
