Tbh nobody wants to host the ESC because it is expensive as f*ck. Y'all be talking like it's an honor when Luxembourg declined to host the contest everytime they won because it would bankrupt them.

It is expensive yes, but it is an honor and I think most of the participating countries want to win and host it.
It really depends on how you do it. Sweden did it a bit smaller 2013, but still great and made a huge profit, while Denmark did it too big and lost millions and millions last year

​Actually Conchita got a lot of backlash in Austria for winning the contest with some of the judges that picked her arguing that they only chose her because they were sure Europe wasn't ready for a bearded drag queen and that she would flop for sure. So she was basically seen as a shoe-in to lose the competition yet however make a lasting impression and stay in the competition for the following years.
