The only thing I don't care for, is how she recycles a lot of melodies and lyrics in her songs. For example she tends to use the following words/concepts in her music.

"Diamonds"

"Like a child"

"My Father"

"America"

"Paradise"

Those don't bother me so much. The only one that mildly irritates me is "party dress." I mean, damn honey, get some new clothes!

omg :rip: this was Priceless :lmao:

I don't think Lana had anything to do with being marketed towards hipsters. Maybe her label initially tried to market her towards certain groups of people / certain publications, and it clearly backfired.

A dance remix in the US is one thing. Major success, sales (BTD did amazingly well in the UK last year) and love for her original music in Europe and the rest of the world is something she clearly is very grateful for, and therefore will remain faithful to those places and the music they love her for. She isn't one to turn and change with trends in music (clearly) so I imagine she's pleased with the success of the SS remix in the US, but it won't make her think "yeah Im gonna do a dance record next so I can be more successful in the US"

Lana makes art, and Europe has always been much more open to welcoming authentic, long-lasting artists than US audiences.

"I believe in the country America used to be."

what's wrong with re-using things? :flop: It's what makes Lana Del Rey who she is. Even Gaga is recycling the concept of fame over and over, and I love it personally.

me too, i never said they were wrong, i was just adding to the list  :classy:

even in hollywood, she says "electric" and morrison again

Not sure about the long lasting part. The UK anyway has a pattern of eagerly embracing new artists and then dropping them on their 2nd album. Just ask Mika or Duffy.

With luck, maybe Lana can last 3 albums like Anastacia and the Scissor Sisters, the last two US acts to be big in Europe but ignored at home.

Lana is definitly lasting. People talking here about her being the Queen of Indie :laughga:

She is defiantly also a style icon here.

Oh and what about Hasselhoff? :derpga:

Mika and Duffy tho  Jeez I wonder why they got forgotten about

Plenty of Pop artists have gone the distance in the UK. Kate Bush and David Bowie have been releasing highly successful albums since the 70s and their newest releases top the charts - and they don't produce music that panders to today's pop. Like Lana. She has the songwriting, the interesting image and the charming persona that have made people like Kate and David have such long, successful careers in the UK. I believe she'll be around for a long time.

The US can carry on eating up and ****ting out the same old garbage as long as it wants. Please, keep Rihanna

I'm very much an Anglophile in music - you guys had way better pop that the US during the 00's (Kylie, Sophie E-B, Girls Aloud, Scissor Sisters, Goldfrapp, Ellie Goulding, Little Boots).

But recently it like you're going for old US trends you missed out on. Getting into R&B and urban, loving Rihanna more than the US, Chris Brown songs doing better in Europe than US,. Ever since Adele smashed, the UK has been into slow music, "the new boring" (Ed S, Emeli S). North America already had it's fill of slow R&B in past years, so Adele didn't set off a trend here.

Yep the charts here atm are balls. I don't listen to the radio at all when Gaga or Lana don't have singles out. But the UK is always faithful to it's long-time chart toppers, regardless of who or what is in the charts. I think Lana, actually, could go on to have a kind of Kate Bush/Tori Amos career if she was ever to remove herself from like.. I don't know how to put it, but yknow, she does her own thing.

My Lana faves are Million Dollar Man, This Is What Makes Us Girls, Off To The Races, Cola, Body Electric, and Young And Beautiful.

I'm slowly starting to get her unreleased stuff. It's... quite a bit and it doesn't seem to be available as some huge .zip (which would really help me out!), so I've got to find each one individually. All the recent leaks don't make this any easier, of course.

Million Dollar Man is just so bluesy and awesome and ughhhh. Even Lana's bizarre rendition of it on that French show is interesting. One for the money, whoa-oo-whoa, TWO for the show!
