They were talking about Gaga's oscar performance and how great it was Then my Mom goes, "I don't like how she did that [Gaga]. How she sung the same songs that Julie Andrews sang. They made it like a competition. " This is how our conversation went down: Me: "What? Its a tribute to "The Sound of Music". How else would one go about tributing a musical than to sing the songs? Mom: "Well they could have used scenes of Julie Andrews singing and made some type of montoge"(which they did at the beginning) Me: "Watching a performance is way more entertaining though" Mom: "Its like Gaga was trying to outdo Julie Andrews. What if the performance is better than the original? How is that tributing and honoring the original performer? Me: "Thats how tributes always are. Somebody recreates the original for entertainment and out of respect. Its not about a competition or trying to outdo anybody. And it was a tribute to the movie not just to Julie Andrews. I don't remember how our conversation ended. My Mom is so ridiculous. She just loves to hate Gaga. But my Mom may have thought Gaga's performance was better than Julie Andrews. She wasn't really clear. She may have been talking in general about tributes being better than the originals. Sorry, Im sure nobody cares about this. I just had to vent.
