The biggest problem with Lauryn's argument is that most white "racism" as of 2015 is not "racist" in her special sense. Nowdays white hostility to other races is often just as reactive as black racism and neither need make any claim to superiority.

A xenophobic desire for foreigers with alien ways to stay out of your neighbourhood makes no claim to superiority, and works the same for both races. A Serbian or Greek can hate Moslims for reactive reasons, because they conquered his country historically.

Yeah because every white people as colonialist as ancestors and of course all of them were racist :fail:

The majority of Central and Eastern Europe didn't even had a colonial empire :air:

Problem is Americans don't get a good grounding in world history. Leftists there tend to talk as if Europeans invented slavery a couple of centuries ago, and know little about parts of Europe being conquered by the Mongols or Muslims, of the majority living under the Feudal system.

The concept of reverse racism is flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous. Most, if not all of the negative responses from people of color toward white people, are reactions to the hatred, violence, cruelty and brutality that they were shown by white people for centuries. Much of the foundation of the modern world was built on the forced free labor of black peoples. The African Slave Trade, the institution of slavery, colonialism, its derivative systems, and the multiple holocausts throughout history, where whites used race as the defining reason to justify their oppression, conquest, and brutal treatment of non-white peoples, are how race became such a factor to begin with.

:toofloppy:

I live in a European country that was under muslim rule for five centuries and we have records of hundreds villages wiped of existence and many other atrocities during that period. They even had a word to call the white people and they had to pay tax for being non musilm(one of which was the "blood tax" where they would come and kidnap the first born boys to brainwash them in to Muslim warriors, you know some major ISIS teas lol). All of this started 100 years before America was even "discovered" and ended around the time when slavery was already abolished in most countries.

So by that argument do I, my people and the neighboring countries get a free pass to hate muslims and to have "negative response" brown people in general? :flop: Cause I don't think we do nor do I want it. So yeah, maybe you need to do some reading up of your own. While I can't argue racism against people of colour and especially blacks sadly is still a thing in a lot of places, it's definition is and it always will be racial prejudice. It's the same thing for all races. There's no need to impose the North American(or more like tumblr :emma:) view on racism, cause it might not be valid for the rest of the world.

Before everyone gets into arguing the semantics of a word ("racism") bear in mind this act was a hate fueled by disliking of another race. Based on HOW you define the word "racism," you could argue that it is or is not racism.

REGARDLESS of what your vocabulary is, this is at the very least an act of race-based prejudice.

People always want to debate whether or not reverse-racism exists, and technically they're both correct because they're using their own definitions of the word "racism." At the end of the day, we can all agree, no matter your view on the term "racism," that this was race-based prejudice.

Come on, is that a joke? I've rarely in my life read such a racist thing... This pure hate towards white people ^^

But thanks, I understand now why she totally screwed up her carreer since she's 22, when you read what's on her mind, she's totally f**k*d up.

I can't take you serious right now. So you think that people of any race can't be racist? We only know that white people can be racist? Didn't you read that article?

Seriously? What kind of white-hating person are you?

Look up the genocide of Tutsis by Hutus. Those tribes may both be black, but you can still speak here of "racism".

What about the Armenian genocide which was did by Ottomans? That one was directed against White people.

Should I hate myself because I was born White or what? Such a shame on me, my horrible ancestors (which never were racist, actually died in the holocaust :smh:

I accept White Privilege, but at some point this stupid white-shaming should stop.

Not all white people in the world are like some in the USA.

Like Kayla said, definitions of "racism" differ and I was presenting a perspective I found interesting that explained the viewpoint that Gagz was alluding to. I said I found this perspective interesting and arguable, but never that I agreee with it. I absolutely agree with Craig that by this definition, a vast majority of modern "racism" against blacks is nothing but race-based prejudice (whether I'd argue that it's reactive in the same manner is a different discussion). It's certainly narrowly applicable to America and America only.

My point by posting it was to question if racism is relative or absolute. I'm on the fence about that. I'm not sure how I feel.

Let's all take a breath now.

Let's all take a breath now.

I'm doing it right now. :derpga: Btw I have no hard feelings and we're just talking here. Cause lately people think that I have something personal against them when I disagree with something(is it happening just to me or? lol), so I just want to make sure that I said I don't. :emma:

Wait, people don't actually believe European invented slavery? Or don't know about European areas being conquered by Muslims and the feudal system?

I thought this was common knowledge as an American

Yeah they do. lol Go on tumblr and see all the bad stuff us bad white Europeans invented. It's not just an American thing imo, there are ignorant people everywhere. I blame the internet partially for people's stupidity, like I've seen so many bull**** being passed around as history that it's ridiculous.

Mess lol. Even if Europeans practiced something it doesn't mean they invented it. It's probably people who are only focusing on the American side of racism or slavery, etc.

Slavery is ancient.

Lol, I Googled "slavery" and literally the second result is "Slavery in The United States"  - this probably misleads a lot of people.

It's definitely a well-known thing that's gone on here, and I have wondered how it's taught abroad, now that I think about it. I'm sure there are people who claim Europeans "invented" slavery (even though the race-based chattel slavery that developed in the U.S. was a bit different than other forms like P.O.W. slavery) but that's ridiculous. With that said, the fact is that Europeans did engage in the large transaction that was the Atlantic Trade, and has its consequences (large African diaspora population rooted in Americas, etc.)

But don't say that in Oklahoma, you could be raising "anti-American sentiment" that will lead to "dissent" :fan:

What word they had for white people? They were by themselves white.

And your people and neighbouring countries DO hate Muslims to this day because of the Ottomans, that's why Bosnian genocide happened, that's why mass exodus of Turks from Bulgaria happened, as a result of forced ethnic assimilation policy.

Julian Popov, former Bulgaria's Minister of Environment and Water, described Balkan history books the best

The Balkans is not a particularly apologetic place. Apology equals weakness. If somebody ever discovers "a Balkan gene", it would be the gene for blame. The second Balkan gene would be that of denial. Maybe this unapologetic nature of the Balkans stays in the centre of countless Balkan conflicts, mistreatment and atrocities.

When you read textbooks lovingly written by Balkan historians you will see that most of them are based on the premise that throughout history "everybody was against us". The Balkan self-victimisation obsession and the view that "all neighbours are bloodthirsty enemies" is deeply embedded in the public discourse.

Often, it is virtually impossible to research the past simply because the effort to understand what had happened might go against a popular poem written by a second-rate poet, but is perceived as an unquestionable source of a sacred truth. The popular perception of the Ottoman Empire is that it was five centuries of darkness, coloured only by the rivers of blood of brave men and women who chose death over forceful Islamisation.

After WWII, the militantly secular Communists preserved this line, mainly because Turkey was, by then, a member of that other bloodthirsty empire - NATO. The term for the Ottoman period was shifting all the time. Depending on the state of the relationship between Turkey and Bulgaria (which closely followed the level of Soviet obsession with NATO), the term used varied from "Turkish Slavery" to "Osman Slavery" to "Ottoman Rule".

Also you forgot to mention the treatment of Janissaries in Devsirme system, as cruel it is to take them away from families - many even voluntarily gave their sons because those boys were given food, care and best education, they learned many languages and were treated with respect. Their status enabled some of them to become powerful and wealthy, some became high ranked military officials.

It's completely different from how African slaves were treated in the United States. I don't know how can you even compare the two.

Yeah, the race based slavery developed in America is definitely distinct from other slavery. Lol, Oklahoma. Such a joke.
