I'm pretty sure Alejandro was ABBA-inspired, but okay. Also the article says that she used a formula merging Synthpop with R&B/Hip Hop, yet a lot of her biggest hits (JD, BR) didn't follow that at all, and the only thing in PF that could even be remotely classified as Rap would be the bridge.

And whatever way you want to look at it, Applause was a hit, so....

How the hell can people say that she declined with Born This Way?  :toofloppy: It sold over 1m in the first week.Had 2 top 10 hits,1 top 3 and 1 #1 (for six weeks). The tour was massively successful. I don't get it..It just had a flop single. That's all (and it didn't do as bad as people say)

So I guess the TLC influence and Tamar's r&b-style backing vocals on Born This Way the song doesn't make it black enough for this article?

Strangely enough though, I do agree that songs like Yoü and I, TEOG, Judas, and MTN are definitely more "white" than the R&B infused sound of TFM and some songs on TF.

It feels kinda wrong to look at music genres based on race but R&B/Soul music has undeniable roots with African Americans as they pioneered the genre and continue to make up the majority of artists keeping it alive. On a side note, I know a few of my friends only like The Fame and The Fame Monster and don't care for Born This Way or ARTPOP and they happen to be Black. But I also know many whites, Asians, Latinos..etc feel the same way. She was just more accessible to most people during TF/TFM. Also, she was extremely new to people back then and everyone was on board until they got bored. Lol.

The "whitening" (heh) of Gaga's music may have had some effect on her decline but it's definitely not the sole factor or even a major one.
