ItsOnlyAshleigh 2
It's my favorite music video she's done. I love how simple it is.

Guest
I was initially very disappointed with the video because it wasn't what Gaga originally had in mind, and everyone was so accustomed to every Gaga video being elaborate spectacles that are interesting, innovative, and a little weird. Now, I couldn't imagine the song having a video like that. The song itself is this extravagant masterpiece, and I feel like the video lets the song shine. The song is extremely personal and intimate, and the simplicity of the video really brings that out in the songs imo. Looking back, it feels really appropriate for the song. I know people are going to drag me and say "Not everything Gaga does is perfect," but even though this was a last-minute treatment, she lucked out and made it work really well. And I know Gaga has said it means a lot to her since the saxophonist passed away after the video was released, and they were the only two in the video. Andy McQueen 4,484
Well, they only used the scenes that Gaga made with Joseph Kahn before they had their fight (he wanted the old "Love Game/Eh Eh" Gaga back according to her), I think it was only one day of shooting - same set, same outfit - all the other planned scenes (mermaid in fish tank, hospital with "fashion doctors", Latin lovers etc.) weren't made and Gaga thought it was good the simplistic way it was since sadly Clarence Clemons got sick and passed away shortly after it was released. SlaeUrAnus 16,010
It makes you think what could have been :emo: In my messy era.
Leo 3,000
It's because of how amateurish it looks. One set, one outfit, poor editing, camera cranes casting a shadow in shots. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful video, but it doesn't nail the landing as well as other simple concept videos with a low budget (see Elastic Heart). Guest
What was the dispute about? I think it was just creative differences. Gaga and Kahn couldn't agree on concepts for the video. A lot of the ideas from the original concept were transferred over to the Yoü and I video, like Yuyi the mermaid.
SlaeUrAnus 16,010
well people expected some kind of 30-minute epic about mermaids and stuff. that's the problem. also the actual problem was that the director was all like "WE'RE GONNA DO THIS AND WE'RE GONNA DO THAT" without even thinking about including Gaga in the production process and Gaga being like "**** you man, this is my music video not yours. I'd rather have a one scene video I did myself than play your pop princess puppet and only look pretty and sh*t. I'm Lady f*cking Gaga not Katy Perry" Nicely put In my messy era. Pain of fame1 229
It was supposed to be a huge, epic, mermaid-themed video, but Gaga and the director kept fighting so the director left, and Gaga had to scramble (i.e. rush-release) a new video together. They only had like 3 days for this, so we got the simple EOG video we have now.
charliekelso 115
LOL Single Ladies, Someone Like You, ***Flawless, In For The Kill (La Roux), and a lot of other videos are good and simple. That's not an excuse. That video is badly edited and it looks like what it is: a production that was rushed because they changed plans last minute. Sugarfall 3,723
Too bad they got into a fight because Joseph Kahn has made great videos like Toxic I'm proud of gaga for protecting her art tho
