While Chapel Hill shooting got few emoticons and pages of how atheists cannot be extreme and how it's all 'parking dispute'. Watch this be in the news for days and days on front pages of all Western media. Still looking for false moral equivalency. Angry asshole guy who shots his neighbours vs organized attack with guns on a conference about free speech. Imagine if people paid attention to every anti-Christian or anti-atheist outrage in the Muslim world or every Muslim perpetrated anti-semitic incident in Europe? There's plenty of respect for atheists. Idk what your point is. Atheists are far more offensive and vocal and they don't have a belief system to be ridiculed. And the "disrespected" cartoon artists are the ones who disrespected others first..? The only hypocritical thing here is that race, s-x, life choices, etc. should all be respected and have huge support groups, yet it's totally OK to ridicule religion in current society. Some people feel that those cartoons shouldn't be published because it is offensive. And it is being asked that people respect that. And other people feel they should be published because it's very usual to create satirical cartoons. And they are asking people to respect their freedom of speech. I think there is a conflict here and it's unfair to say it's a matter of respect because there are simply two different opinions, both asking to be respected. And only one of these camps includes a small portion of people that is apparently resorting to violence. Angry racist islamophobe who killed 3 young Muslims is a terrorist as much as any "lone wolf" attacker with a Muslim name/not all of them have connections to any organization. Even Breivik was not called a terrorist, after 77 victims, only because he's white and Christian. And second paragraph is laughable, because mainstream media DOES bring a lot of attention when whoever with a muslim name is behind a gun. The media does not report every anti-Christian thing in the Middle East. It's actually shocking how the western world doesn't care. teo 609 Posted February 15, 2015 Share Posted February 15, 2015 you're not promoting that the attack was good, but you ARE promoting that the cartoons were as bad if not worse. whether you realise it or not, that is the subtext of what you've got to say on this matter. we don't need to learn anything from it. islamic crackpots do. they need to learn that we don't bend the knee to violence. especially not over drawings. drawings. say that out loud. open microsoft paint and draw something and think about what you'd need to do to end up making someone want to kill you. and all that is is a drawing of a human shaped figure called mohammed. you need to let it sink in what we're dealing with. freedom of speech includes the freedom to offend as well as the freedom to be offended. islamists and their sympathisers such as you need to get used to that and you know... stop killing people for it. take a deep breath and get on with their lives. and that comment about christians would want to attack muslims is so unbelievably out of touch that i don't even know what to say to it. jesus and nuns and stuff are parodied all the time. christians don't touch a hair on anyone's head. let that sink in as well.
