Hopefully, this will show not to draw offensive caricutures of religious figures. Such figures are sensitive, especially to Muslims. There is a limit to freedom of speech before it becomes offensive and susceptible to conflict. Although, this attack just goes to show how one mistake will follow you for the rest of your life and how no religion is either wrong or right. It has become apparent that no place is safe from terrorism but promoting hypocrisy is no way to resolve the problem

The Court's supervisory functions oblige it to pay the utmost attention to the principles characterising a "democratic society". Freedom of expression constitutes one of the essential foundations of such a society, one of the basic conditions for its progress and for the development of every man. Subject to paragraph 2 of Article 10 (art. 10-2), it is applicable not only to "information" or "ideas" that are favourably received or regarded as inoffensive or as a matter of indifference, but also to those that offend, shock or disturb the State or any sector of the population. Such are the demands of that pluralism, tolerance and broadmindedness without which there is no "democratic society". This means, amongst other things, that every "formality", "condition", "restriction" or "penalty" imposed in this sphere must be proportionate to the legitimate aim pursued.

expect to be killed... over cartoons. stop pretending you are for equality. you think muslim feelings are more important than anyone else's because you have let the terrorists win. you fear them. more fool you.
How does fighting for respect for Muslims constitute Islamophobia and letting terrorists win? What kind of world do you live in where what someones says equates to the opposite of what has been said?

no, you're fighting for the submission to extremist islamist terror attacks to impose islamic BLASPHEMY laws upon non-muslims, not respect for muslims. you are patronising and dehumanising all muslims, saying that drawing pictures is tantamount to oppressing them, as if they are poor frail little objects whose bloodlust and emotions are at the whims of the wild west. how insulting to be a decent muslim and to see a non-muslim defend the fringe nuts who are offended to the point of murder over pictures.

And being on a Lady Gaga fansite arguing with a user named Gypsiss and another garnite is not ridiculous when said aloud. Fighting Muslims to be respected because even the good Muslims are seen in a bad light by many. I wonder if you yourself are minority because you would not understand the various double standards that exists for many minorities, including my own. Even when Muslims or minorities abide by the constructs of society, many of them face oppression by the majority for trying to be like them and disgust by the minority group. Lack of respect and acceptance results in revolution and the more that isdone to subjugate Muslims or any minority, the more resistance to the norm there will be. The Ferguson riots occurred as a result of years of bottled up racial tensions and the Charlie Hebdo attacks out of years of portraying Muhammad in a negative light. In the eyes of the majority, the little things that minorities care about are overlooked and are sometimes exploited for entertainment. A reaction is inevitable

muslims killing people for not following islamic blasphemy laws about drawing pictures of mohammed is what causes people to lose respect for muslims, not non-muslims looking at pictures of some holy prophet. because we see jesus and christian imagery parodied and appropriated all the time and we don't blink an eye and no one gets hurt. i wouldn't need to be a minority to understand this. the principle of freedom of speech is solid without that. comparing the oppression of blacks to drawing pictures of a prophet. dear dear. if i was on the phone with you i would hang up right there. you have no sense of scale. go and listen to some of the arguments moderate muslims make in favour of freedom of speech and drawing pictures (which by the way DO NOT have to be shown in a negative light - this is a key point that you are either concealing or ignorant about. a muslim received death threats for tweeting a picture of mohammed with the word "hi" or something similar next to it) because you clearly have only heard the arguments made by the extremists and ultra sensitive sympathisers. because you are only catering to one side but pretending to cater to everyone.

Whatever you say. I know many Muslims want reform but you seriously do not understand how bad it is to draw pictures of Muhammad, whether good or bad. Unlike Jesus Christ, Muhammad's image is not really supposed to be portrayed. Freedom of speech has its limits and so does freedom of religion, obviously. What you are failing to consider is that there are sensitive people everywhere. There are Christians who take their religion seriously and live their lives free of modern distractions but even they are beginning to open their eyes to the modern world as are many devout Muslims. The youth of the world are the most sensitive and to put them in a place of second class citizenship is what makes them angry. It is what makes me angry but Muslims are now seen as the scapegoat for everything when it comes to terrorism. Do you think they like that? Do you think I like to be assumed as a person who crossed the American border on a raft illegally when I am a natural born citizen? Do you think all homos-xuals like to be described as diva flamers? No. Now, I have had enough of this and I'm going to let you carry about your day and the rest of your life being the xenophobe that you are. Slay with your Islamophobia and disregard for the beliefs of minorities

i think it's clear i know far more about this than you do, actually, definitely on a wider scale too. because you seem only to be aware of islamic offence, and can see only through that prism without considering any other principles or beliefs which in some people's eyes trump them. it's not supposed to be portrayed... by... muslims... you won't grasp this point because your stance crumbles when you do.

you're the one putting them in the place of second class citizenship. i treat them as i treat any other citizen and faith. i expect them to do it of me too, but you don't, you want them to have a special freedom from offence privilege and you will defend this even as they murder people for it. someone is dead today and they were killed for a messed up principle that you defend. you don't even realise what you're saying. a muslim did commit a terrorist attack today and you are condoning the principle for which they killed. this is what causes prejudice against muslims. not drawings. thankfully all sensible people understand this.

To calm your souls, I am not promoting that the attack was good. I am simply saying that we need to learn from these attacks so that they don't happen again in the future. Drawing offensive pictures of religious figures or respected political or celebrities is not right but messing with one's religion does not constitute freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is abused when one causes offense towards another. It's offensive and hypocritical to do so. Religion is something held sacred by many. There should be no reason to exploit religion for the purpose of shock value and attention seeking. I myself am not Muslim nor do I wish to convert to Islam. I am a non-denominational Christian yet I am appalled by the caricatures made of Muhammad. The attacks were a result of this exploitation of a highly respected religious figure. If a Muslim were to do the same with Jesus Christ, Christians would want to attack Muslims for the exploitation. You have to see this on both sides of the spectrum and see into the future how certain events will affect others later on and how they will react

You're completely right. Don't let those nay-sayers convince you of anything else. ;)

People should respect religion more. Always promoting anti-homophobia, anti-racism, etc. but when it comes to religion it's suddenly OK to be completely disrespectful. Then they give the reason "you're not born with religion". Umm okay, so if I loose my legs you can make fun of that handicap? Religion is an important fundamental part of some people's individuality. If someone doesn't understand that they're ignorant or too young.

your a--logy literally makes no sense. you can't change your s-xuality or race. religion is just ideas. like politics. which you can change. lots of people change or convert religions, or join different political parties when their ideas change.

Where is the respect for atheists?  For cartoon artists?

Where is the respect?

It's just so hypocritical.

As always, garnite is speaking nothing but the truth.

The fear of terrorism is rising, we really need to be careful and not let the fear control us. Giving in would be the easy way, standing up against it is the right way.

Already 3 pages. While Chapel Hill shooting got few :wtf: emoticons and pages of how atheists cannot be extreme and how it's all 'parking dispute'. Watch this be in the news for days and days on front pages of all Western media.
