I think you missed the part where Russia is denying being a part of the conflict, unlike Iraq where the US actually declared war. And this is not kindergarten, you can't justify your country's wrong doings just cause somebody did it too. So many people died in Ukraine, so please don't come here making excuses for Russia, especially if you're gonna use US/NATO as your argument, cause they didn't started this ****. Also nobody needs satellites to confirm that Putin's been giving the separatists weapons, like we all know they didn't grow them on trees.  Y'all have enough land so instead of trying to resurrect the soviet union maybe try and do something good with it for a change?

I was simply trying to explain the logic of the Russian government, which many people fail to understand. Most people have a biased opinion that Putin dreams of resurrecting the Soviet Union and building that empire back when in fact his actions have nothing to do with it. Putin is perfectly aware that Soviet Union crashed partly due to the fact that the expenses for governing such a huge structure became too high for the budget to maintain, so I don't think he will willingly push his own country into the same situation once again.

 

It was important to mention the US/NATO because Putin and his counselors believe the USA to be directly responsible for the semi-lawful change of power which took place in Ukraine last year. That is why he feels free to use the same tactics in the Ukraine which the USA/NATO have been using for quite a long time against countries they deem minor. That is why it was important to bring the US/NATO issue in the discussion - because it is not me who thinks that way, but it is what Putin himself and his allies hinted at in various interviews.

 

The annexation of Crimea was made because he no longer believed the new Ukrainian government would let Russia keep its military navy base there, and Crimea fleet base is the only proper Russian fleet base in the Black Sea. He is supporting the separatists in the eastern regions of Ukraine so that their country has little chance of joining NATO, because NATO can not accept countries which do not correspond to Territorial integrity principle.

 

The trade treaty with the EU has been signed, as far as I know, so he doesn't seem to mind that. The Ukraine loyalty didn't matter to Putin until they started questioning his right to have a fleet base in Crimea and expressed the will to join NATO.

 

As for justifying the actions of Russian - I was not trying to justify them, no. I was trying to explain the logic behind the actions of the government, because thinking that Putin is doing it because he wants to resurrect the Soviet Union and add territories is kindergarten.

 

The war can rarely be justified, and I know people are dying there every day. I had three friends in Ukraine before the conflict broke out, and I still can't get in touch with the one who lived in Donetsk, and him and his family whereabouts remain unknown to all their relatives. I would like just to point out that the official Ukrainian government purposely chose to solve the conflict with break-away regions in a military way, not using a political dialogue with the separatist regions which even PACE refused to recognize as terrorists. They started bombing cities still full of civilians. And they got violence in reutrn of violence.

It wasn't my intention to sound harsh if I did, sorry. This is not the first time I argue with you on the topic "Russia vs. the world" and there's no point cause I'll never side with them as long as that scumbag Putin is in charge, so let's just agree to disagree?
