I do it once a day and that's enough. Washing your sking way too many times over day can mess up the already existing natural protective surface.

I kinda see her point. Some people on the continent aren't as overly obsessed with showering like English speaking whites are. But at the same time, there are whites who aren't obsessed, me for one. I'm too afraid to admit that I don't shower every day because it seems to be socially unacceptable to say and people automatically assume that must mean you stink and you never let water touch your skin. However, just because she you don't shower doesn't mean you're not washing. You can do a stand-up wash at the sink. I sometimes even stand in the bath and scoop up water from the sink. I wash like that most days. A full on shower/bath just takes too long and drying off afterwards takes so long. It's much easier only having to dry from the waist down and not having to worry about your hair falling out a shower cap (my hair's really long). So, the routine I normally have is clean from the waist down while standing in the bath and scooping water from the sink, then throw some water and soap under each armpit, dry off and slap on some deodarent, done. And that's me for the whole day. No one has ever told me that I smell. My mum is super blunt when it comes to things like that, so she'd tell me if I smelled. The only time I smell is if something's happened to make me smell. I sometimes can't find the time to shower once, never mind several times and I don't know where people find the time. I think it's very wasteful on water and electricity, not to mention all the clean pairs of underwear I'd have to have ready. Plus, I wear sanitary towels everyday (I know you shouldn't but I kinda have to), so that's one reason why I don't shower constantly, because I'd go through these towels like there's no tomorrow. I also used to suffer really badly with eczema on my hands and water would dry them out and make it worse, so I couldn't have water constantly on my skin if I wanted to have non-itchy, non infected hands that I didn't have to apply cream to.

I ultimately think that we're a bit too obsessed with cleanliness. George Carlin once joked about this, saying that unless you're in a job where you're sweating a lot or come into contact with large quantities of dirt, you don't need a shower every day, that it's overkill. As long as you keep the 4 key areas clean (armpits, crotch, crack and teeth) you don't need to shower every day. And I couldn't agree more. These are really the only areas where stink gathers, so it makes sense that you should just focus on these the majority of the time. Washing all over only serves to take away any dry skin that gathers on your ankles or inner arms (an unfortunate problem that builds up with me) and doesn't do much else. Dirt/smell doesn't gather on your stomach, back, legs, etc, right? So why the need to clean all over? Constant showering strips your skin of its natural oils and isn't good on older, thinner skin, especially. A lot of dermotologists advise only showering about 3 times a week and using a moist towellete the rest of the time, which sounds like a perfectly healthy routine to me.

HORRORHOLIC

I don't get why she would make it a race thing. That's pretty weird to me. Anyway, I have to shower at least once a day and it has nothing to do with me being white. I just feel better when I do.
