Cairo (AFP) - Egypt's state sponsored Islamic authority on Tuesday denounced as a provocation the planned publication of another cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed in the new issue of French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

"This action is an unjustified provocation against the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims," the Dar al-Ifta said in a statement.

"This (magazine) edition will result in a new wave of hatred in French and Western society. What the magazine is doing does not serve co-existence and the cultural dialogue Muslims aspire to," the statement added.

Dar al-Ifta is headed by the mufti, the government's official interpreter of Islamic law.

His adviser, Ibrahim Negm, told AFP the institution condemned the bloody attack on the magazine's offices last week by jihadists, after it published satirical depictions of the Muslim prophet.

"We call on all Muslims not to participate in violence," he said.

"We denounce violence and respect freedom of opinion. But the other side has to understand that we love the Prophet Mohammed."

I know that charlie hebdo doesnt want to be condemned, but idk maybe they could just accept the fact that Mohammed is an importanr figure in their religion? I'm not DEFENDING the muslims that think they can use violence AT ALL, it's just that there are limits, and both should just stfu and sit down...

who says they don't accept it? what are you suggesting? it seems you're implying by accepting it offends some people they should never draw it aka they should impose islamic law on themselves because it would make muslims feel better. lol

I kinda agree with them to be honest, they've just fueled the fire even further  I'm really glad that they sent out a message to not participate in the violence though :applause: Hopefully any protests against stuff will be kept peaceful and humane :ohno:

And who the **** gave him the authority to speak on behalf of 1.5 billion muslims?!:toofunny: Did they held a referendum and named him a spokesperson? Like gurl just speak for yourself, cause there were thousands of muslims marching in Paris(for example) who are definitely not on the same page as you. So mind your own issues and feelings without dragging billions to shield your personal opinion.
