But there has been another shocking death toll in recent days with reports of hundreds, possibly thousands, of people massacred by Boko Haram. Even there the Paris deaths got more press than those in Nigeria, said media a--lyst Ethan Zuckerman. He pointed out that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan expressed sympathy to the French but said nothing about Baga. Newsbeat looks at the numbers. Muhammad Abba Gava, a spokesman for a defence group that fights Boko Haram, said they gave up on trying to count all the bodies. "No one could attend to the corpses and even the seriously injured ones who may have died by now," he added. anyone know what exactly this conflict is all about? Boko Haram ("Western education is forbidden"), officially called Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'Awati Wal-Jihad ("People Committed to the Prophet's Teachings for Propagation and Jihad"), is a militant and self-professed Islamist movement based in northeast Nigeria with additional activities in Chad, Niger and Cameroon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boko_Haram Westrenzation of these countries. "I see the very positive response of the French government tackling this issue of religious violence after the killing of their citizens," said the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Jos in central Nigeria, Ignatius Kaigama. "We need that spirit to be spread around, not just when it happens in Europe, (but) when it happens in Nigeria, in Niger, Cameroon and many poor countries, that we mobilise our international resources to confront the people who bring such sadness to many families," he told BBC World Service radio. Kaigama was speaking after another bloody weekend for Nigeria in which three female suicide bombers, including one thought to be as young as 10, killed at least 23 people in the restive northeast. Four people were killed in suicide attacks by two female bombers on Sunday in the latest deadly violence in northeast Nigeria after the military appealed for support to help fight Boko Haram. The two women targeted a crowded market in Potiskum, Yobe State, a day after 19 people were killed in a similar attack in neighbouring Borno State, by a girl thought to be aged just 10.
