RBNLM 1,640
I love all of her albums and all her visuals even if ARTPOP was a mess but we know what happened
tsvet 676
excuse me, if it wasn't for the FAME, GAGA wouldn't have happened.
Truth 90
Exactly, this is her best album, and the only one that is in fact memorable
GagaSkeletonWay 2,080
This thread has no sense imo We all know this album changed Gaga's life and that it was super successful but that has nothing to do with it being good or not. The Fame is not a bad album, but it's something every pop star could have done, and compared to other Gaga's albums it is actually bad except for PF, Paper Gangsta and Paparazzi. But this is just my opinion
Brooke Hoegan 1,018
I think people judge The Fame just by the tracks on the record when her work on that era went way beyond that. The outfits made by herself and the then small Haus (no millionaire stylists and famous designers giving her stuff for free), the great vision behind her music videos, the badass setting and energy of The Fame Ball even though it was 'low budget' (she went bankrupt when she started using the LCD screens), masterpieces like The Fame Part One and Who Shot Candy Warhol, and the list could go on She didn't have big contacts, a huge team or millions of dollars like she does today where she just thinks and things get done with star hollywood quality, she had to work hard to get her vision to come alive and do it herself and she still delivered more than any other popstar on their debut album. The Fame slays. I even think Haus and Gaga were sooo much more creative when they didn't have the money if you don't have the money you push so much harder for something to be really good cause you know the effect depends only on your hard work if you have the money you suddenly think "oh, we can buy this and buy that" and then you rely too much on what's been already made by someone else and you aren't that fresh it is my main problem with her artistry now btw... her ideas feel fresh so rarely to me now... SlaeUrAnus 15,970
I don't hate The Fame, the singles were amazing and what made me become a little monster. I just love ARTPOP too much. This thread should be about ARTPOP though, the hate that ARTPOP had/has been receiving still exists, and ARTPOP does not deserve that. Surely it under performed and the era was kind of a mess, but the music simply is the one of her best if not the best. Still Gaga anyway. I disagree. I think the music from her previous albums are superior to ARTPOP. In my messy era.
Benji 20,113
It's criminally underrated here. It's not my favourite album overall but it's the home to a handful of her best tracks. I have no idea why people feel the need to compare it to ARTPOP 24/7, both are very different and to compare an artist's first album with the 4th is just messy. The Fame is more cohesive, thought out and sounds more like a soundtrack.
djBuffoon 12,123
Because in retrospect it is her weakest album. Only now that we have AP, BTW and TFM we can realise that TF (excluding 5 or so songs) is not that great. This. Just because it paved the way for her music and her career, does not make it insusceptible to criticism. For me, in retrospect, it is her most un-Gaga album to date. Doesn't mean it isn't a strong album, but it does seem like a completely different person was responsible for it. This thread should be about ARTPOP though, the hate that ARTPOP had/has been receiving still exists, and ARTPOP does not deserve that. Surely it under performed and the era was kind of a mess, but the music simply is the one of her best if not the best. Agreed.

Supersonic 49,376
While I do agree that 'The Fame' opened the gates for Gaga, it is not her best album,. I just think that it pales in comparsion to Born This Way or ARTPOP artistically. My dislike for The Fame & The Fame Monster era is somewhat rooted in this desperate "nostalgia" some of you guys perpetuate, which is not actual nostalgia. It is more like clinging to the numbers, the #1's, Gaga's omnipresence in media, while actually enjoying the music & visuals itself falls completely short. I do reminisce whenever I hear Just Dance (actually I cry), Paparazzi or Alejandro, but I am aware of how she gradually changed and became a better artist, and that Gaga suffered a lot mentally and physically creating those two albums. Especially during The Fame Monster were Gaga visibly relapsed into her eating disorder, became thinner and thinner and passed out several times on stage. I don't want her go back to that place. I just want Gaga to be happy with herself and her art.
MikeGoneGaga 86
i just recently read the other threads regarding about "The Fame" album, i noticed that some of you guys easily say that i should not exist..worst album of hers.. etc etc. Why will you say that? (im not saying its her best.. maybe for you.. but learn to appreciate cuz its gaga's work) If I remember correctly, it was a thread on which record one would remove from existence amongst her solo efforts. With people deciding to choose, they tended to choose the work that "wasn't her best." The Fame is the one why lady gaga is here. Thanks for the hits of it.. gaga is now one of the mainstream artist. we should aslo remember that WITHOUT THE FAME... There is no THE FAME MONSTER, There is no BORN THIS WAY.. There no ARTPOP or neither Cheek to Cheek. (the fame monster was wrote during the fame ball travels.. if there is no TFM there is no idea for BTW. If there is no BTW there no AP) Yes...but people, specifically members here, tend to prefer TFM & BTW over everything. The Fame was the foundation. The rest is the work. Remember also that we are all exited on what gaga will do next like everybody does?.. good old days.. I'm still excited for when she does things... We should always remember the one that made her what she is now. The fame is what made her famous and known today.. Remember the days when she's the star always? she always have interviews.. never misses an award shows (AMAs, VMAs Grammys) and SHE ALWAYS OWNS. and even the grammy made an trailer for her "poker face" nominations lol.. 1. Umm...she still is? 2. That's management, marketing, and chart success. Without all three of those factors working like a machine, it doesn't matter how great you are or that people believe you to be. There is also the notion of being new, which does a lot for a lot of people. As you become accustomed to someone, you start to compare them to their past selves and focus much less on the current music. Will Judas stand up to the test of Bad Romance, etc. People also choose to focus on persona instead of the music. Either way, people become used to someone, so they stop treating them like they're special. 3. If that's the case, why has ARTPOP received such hate? Why is it continuing to? Why is it not getting the nostalgia treatment like Born This Way did? I personally think ARTPOP is better than BTW. Moreover, why is Cheek to Cheek receiving hate? Does that mean that BTW which was all about loving people for who they are and what they want to do failed in opening minds (of fans...the GP is loving it) and spreading horizons? OR if she always owns, why are you stuck on the fame?
ByeBye49 161
I don't dislike it, but most of it isn't as good as her other albums.
XoXoJoanneGaga 629
It's criminally underrated here. It's not my favourite album overall but it's the home to a handful of her best tracks. The Fame is more cohesive, thought out and sounds more like a soundtrack. They're quite similar actually. ARTPOP is basically a continuation of The Fame sound, just without a clear-cut concept. It makes more sense to compare those two records than to compare them to TFM or BTW cause those albums are on another level, although The Fame is her best work conceptually. It's one of the smartest pop albums ever made.
