Boy (2 years old) shoots his mom in WallMart while shopping

Refer back to one of my other comments please where I say there may be a perfectly good reason why she carries a gun.

Saying "she asked for it" is really unfair. She didn't ask for it, almost nobody ask to die. Especially by their two year old by accident. That's like saying a girl who dresses like a "slut" asked to be raped.

What a joke. I'm glad guns are allowed, if someone broke into my house and tried to harm any of my family, my dad would shoot them. Guns should be allowed. Maybe not in walmart necessarily but they should be allowed.

It's not as if I'm not showing any remorse or sympathy. I think it's truly awful, even if the whole gun situation in the US is whack. The laws need to be tightened or just completely get rid of guns all together.

Well then keep your guns. Meanwhile we Europeans live peacefully and civilized next to each other :)

I remember when an European citizen was shot by an American in the USA. The backlash US got here. :smh:

Exactly. We seem to get by okay here

What exactly are the gun laws/rules in Europe? Are guns completely illegal?

yes I do, but at the same time I don't think you should take away guns completely.

Well, they won't take them away competely. Just enforce much stricter gun laws. The gun laws here are absurd. This stuff literally only happens in the US.

No,not completly. But for a normal citizen it's really difficult to get a gun. Like really difficult.

But also from our mentality. No one actually wants a gun and if someone says he wants one they get weird looks.

Shooting accidenty rarely/never happen Europe.

Yes that would be very smart. I wonder what will happen to hunters then?

well that's really nice and it seems like maybe America could learn a thing or two from Europe there. Shootings happen in America multiple times daily so some form of gun control would be good.

Yeah you're right. I see what you mean.

They will still get guns. We're talking about average citizens such as this mother carrying a gun in a store. It sounds so ridiculous to me. If we reduced the amount of guns we'd most likely reduce the violence. You'd have to look up statistics on gun violences in other nations.

Besides that, u won't get the guns people have in the US.

U guys can buy the same guns an army uses, semi automatic and all that sh.t.

But like Simon says, never have I ever heard somebody wanting a gun in Europe, not on the streets nor in politics. It's just out of question.

This is ridiculous: Going shopping with your kids and a loaded gun at your local Walmart! I am very sorry, but I only feel sympathy for the loved ones of the shot woman - but not for her.

I am over 40 years old and I can't remember to have ever heard, that something similar did happen here in Germany.

Thank God I am living in a country, where only the police, the army and public authorities are generally allowed to carry weapons and the "gun laws" are very strict.

For a normal citizen it is strictly forbidden to wear weapons.

Responsible gun ownership is the key here - and I'm saying this and I don't like guns and don't own one.  Carrying it loose in the purse and the kids know where it is?!  And how would a 2 year old have the aptitude to pull it out of the purse and shoot it let alone aim it?  Was she stupid enough to leave the safety off?

I'm starting to think some of these stories are made up or largely fabricated.

There are 56 different states in Europe. It depends.

Strangely though you never hear stories about citizens successfully playing hero, you just hear about them accidentally getting shot and killed.

Hm, and that's a Canadian too: http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/444-marlin/74640-grizzly.html

Was she stupid enough to leave the safety off?

Maybe it was a revolver or Glock or Kahr or Kel-Tec or numerous others without any external safeties.

You didn't describe a specific scenario. Okay, how bout this one? Note the date.

Close but also not really the same. Your home is your home, having a gun around sure who cares. Bringing them out into the public space full of people because you think someone might jump you just leads to all kinds of trouble. Hence the story we have in the OP.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

You're just as likely to need one in public. Portability is the entire point of handguns. It's her fault for not keeping it secured, so I don't understand the comments talking about "gun laws". Because one person was killed through their own carelessness they want to take away the rights of everyone, the rights of those who are responsible? Good luck, /s  :spin:

I agree with the logic here but not the conclusion.

We shouldn't prohibit people from carrying guns but we should educate people and require a gun to be holstered at all times at the very least. I don't have much sympathy for this woman because it was her fault, but if the child had killed himself or someone else then having sympathy for her wouldn't even be a question. And I do think that she should've been educated before being allowed to carry a gun, for the safety of everyone.

A toddler should not have access to a gun in a home, in public, or anywhere for that matter. Gun safes, holsters, and gun safety classes are not unreasonable requirements. If someone who is under 18 has access to a a gun that an adult owns and uses it illegally, that adult should be held responsible (in addition to the kid of course). If someone is unwilling (or unable) to comply with those restrictions then they shouldn't have a gun.

We don't need to ban guns in order to have gun laws.
