Frightening. I live in the US and I must say, i've enjoyed them, yes (the lower gas prices).

 

However not at a cost like this!

 

Not to mention "Fracking" and its effects on the environment... hai U.S.

I always forget about the environment

It's always interesting how the economy and environment seem to work against each other. A lot of things that are bad for the environment are done because they are more economically feasible. That's part of the reason why I'm going to study economics in college. I'd love to try to see if there is at least some way that the gap between the two can be bridged.

well, i think part of the issue is some ppl only care about 1 issue or the other, become fanatic and arent balanced

 

some people clearly only think about the economy regardless of environmental impact...

 

but on the otherhand some environmentalists go fanatic and try to stop every major project no matter. what. they will stand in front of trucks etc

 

with regards to keystone, environmentalists succeeded at creating a tone of political dysfunction both here in Canada and in the US, the problem still isnt resolved... and at the end of the day were seeing experts who said oil companies will just use more trains were correct as the booming numbers in oil rail shipments are exploding exponentially and clogging up railways blocking other products. So the environmental issue is still there and they created drama and uncertainty that was bad for the economy

 

Would it not make more sence to encourage green development and actually eliminate the need for oil rather than spending a bounch of time and energy trying to stop each individual project one by one and creating a bounch of drama in the mean time?

 

Economists and environmentalists need to find common ground. I for one am all for making a greener society. But as a person with great concern for the economy, i would not accept proposals that would destroy the economy and my standards of living in the process. i think we need to do more than were doing now to save teh planet, but with a smart and balanced approach. Not with fanatic methods that dont work anyways

well, i doubt massive defaults that would dstabalize the bond and credit market and put pressure on banks would happen unless prices stay this low for a prolonged period of time

 

if it lasts just a few more months, most companies should be ok

 

if it lasts a year or more with prices below 65$ a barrel, many companies could be in trouble and these massive amounts of loans that will turn into bad loans will reap their bad fruitage to the general economy
