jthorn 37
Why every time someone comes out the world stops Labels should not exist tbh Well they do and they always will. Boy/Girl Gay/Straight. It's not the labels that need not exist, it's the negative stereotypes. And don't be so rude, coming out is an important process for a lot of gay people. I think it's nice that people recognise it because, for a lot of people, it takes a lot of bravery.

Haroon 49,685
I'm glad he's come around to it and he feels comfortable with it and stuff now I don't think it's okay or nice or anything to say how some other YouTubers "need to come out now" or stuff like that We don't know their s-xuality, and we won't until and unless they specify Enforcing stereotypes onto people doesn't do anyone any good unfortunately Plus, if any of them are actually gay then if they choose to come out then they should in their own time and on their own terms - people work at different paces and it's a personal thing

Not here for people disregarding their s-xual identity for wealth. Sends our movement back so much. But it seems most of these youtube kids are not the latter, but the point still stands. When you are a public figure though, your s-xuality is less of a personal thing. We need people to come out and become role models of LGBT kids, and take a stand in general and show their support. The roster of such people in popular media is short and bleak. So to say '' who cares, it's just a s-xuality, they don't have to come out, it's none of your business etc '' is not exactly true either, and in general is a very toxic belief. Nobody "deserves" to be outed and dragged If you're not comfortable and are scared of being out then why should your personal secrets be thrust open into the world for everyone to know? People sometimes act straight due to the fear of how they'll be treated if they're open about their s-xuality - how do we know it's for that and not money & attention? Being a public figure doesn't mean your personal things belong to the public and should be open knowledge. Being gay doesn't mean you have to step up to be a LGBT role model, that's not what people signed up for or are obliged to as soon as they acquire any sort of fame

Being gay doesn't mean you have to step up to be a LGBT role model, that's not what people signed up for or are obliged to as soon as they acquire any sort of fame But it's public figures like him who come out that help us progress and help the world open up to the idea of homos-xuality. Fear is borne out of ignorance, and when we start introducing the idea of some of our favourite celebrities belonging to a minority, then perhaps we can improve the understanding of homos-xuality and slowly help people grow more tolerant towards it. Oh totally But you can't force and rush someone to be comfortable with something and totally come to terms with it Better to have people who are driven towards LGBT rights standing up for it than people who are placed in the position just because they're well known and gay who may not fight as strongly in my opinion

Sure they shouldn't be pressured to do it blah blah blah but they're always in the press and everything and it'd be of such great help to other LGBT youth struggling to come out. Well yeah I totally agree that the ideal scenario would be that all gay celebrities are out and unashamed It's just if they don't for whatever reason then I'm not gonna sit here and judge them for it, because loads of factors come into the whole being ready to come out thing (if ever) Like it's not as simple as "if you're a celebrity and gay then you have to be out"

Being gay doesn't mean you have to step up to be a LGBT role model, that's not what people signed up for or are obliged to as soon as they acquire any sort of fame Yes they do, they definitely do. I have no time for big hollywood stars that masquerade as heteros-xuals, hiring beards to keep up the fantasy while having secret rendezvous with young nubile men or their actual same s-x partners. And all this because of the '' fear '' of losing face or losing their career aka losing wealth. Hollywood in particular isn't that scary of a place to be gay in... The LGBT community could really use more popular figures, yet most of them are closeted due to reasons mentioned above. You don't need to be an LGBT spokesperson if you are a public figure and part of the LGBT community. Just being an out succesful celebrity does WONDERS for the community. You don't have to necessary be open about your s-xuality when you are a celebrity of sorts, but don't fabricate a lie about you being straight, that's just ****ing cruel, and as said, sets our movement back loads, and makes you indefinitely a disgrace. Surely if you are actually really questioning your s-xuality, and afraid of emotional backlash from your family, friends and such, then by all means don't come out for the good of your safety. Now all this that I'm saying only applies to public figures whose lives are out there in the open. When it comes to the '' little people '' who have no presence in the media, then really, do what you want.
