Economy 52,861
Then why do European governments actually support part time working? In the end, you get a better productivity, more jobs and a happier workforce. The average hours worked here is 28, and it doesn't hurt the economy at all. Other great economies like Switzerland and Norway also have a government that supports part time working. i dunno many different reasons... Could be that ur minimum wage is higher, could be that ur part-times pay more... Could also be cause Europe for having more social programs that offer ppl free services more ppl can afford to live with less Regardless i dont see it increasing productivity. Your extra production from not being as tired is not gonna make up for all the fewer hours your working for In fact, many Americans have 2 part-times because they cant find 1 full time job. That ends up being more stressful havin to go to different shifts than 1 full time job especially since 2 jobs wont necessairily sync in time perfectly I think part-times work better in more socialist Governments... Which in general is harder to implement in large Contries as the Government is more involved in everything and in large Countries its harder to keep up with different circumstances across different regions. It would never work in the US the way it works in tiny Countries like the ones on Scandinavia And by part time i mean 30h a week or less. Not low hour work weeks like in France where 35h is the norm In North America, part-times dont pay your bills... Ppl cant rely on it. Especially since real-estate here is a big thing. Here in Canada for instance the home ownership rate is 70% one of the highest in the world. Home prices are high but so are rents. And everyone wants a home to not loose money and grow an asset rather than paying high rents Extras like everyday items and entertainment are cheap. But necessities like housing and insurance premiums are too expensive for ppl to live on part-times Our part-time numbers are lower than in the US... Our poverty rates are lower One of the US Federal Reserves biggest concerns in fact is low full-time jon creation which is stagnating wage growth and not helping the income gap Also Europe may support it... But if theres one thing ive learned is that just because Governments favor something doesnt mean its better. Governments make mistakes all the time And im sure even in those European Countries that "support part-times" you dont have 50% of jobs or more being created being part-time like in the US. Im sure even they wouldnt want that many part-times

Still, there may be a number of different factors at play as to why part-times work for you and not here. And i dont claim to know them all... And many things that influence the economy are not even always things the Government does or doesnt do But what may work for you doesnt necessairily work everywhere. Part-times here do not pay your bills unless its a part-time that pays well per hour (which in most cases it isnt). Or if you have both husband and wife working part time in some areas you can make it work But again, here its the norm that you wanna buy a house. Thats why our home ownership rate is so high. If you do not buy a house, with the high rents, your screwed when you retire And paying off a mortgage with part-times just dont work. ud need to rent some small place to live on that Or u can if you live outside the big cities where cost of living is cheaper... But any city around a metropolis of million of people costs a lot, and most people live in those areas anyway For instance here in Canada, between the Toronto area (6 million people), Montreal Area (just under 4 million), Vancouver area (3 million), Calgary and Edomonton (both close to 1 million) and other cities between 500k to 800k (like our Capital Ottawa) thats where 80% of Canadians live and most of those cities cost a lot. Only a few dont In Canada our wages are pretty high but our cost of living in some areas is astronomical and so part-times dont work.... and in the US only some areas the cost of living is high or higher, but their wages are low for low skilled jobs (minimum wage $8/h in most states) so ppl there cant live with that either i can only try to immagine working for $14/h like i do now (typical low wage for a part-time) with 30h a week or less. How on earth would i pay a rent and other bills? not possible!!! id have to leave the Toronto area and move to some small town. Thats the only way i could possibly do it

Agreed. Greece is just... smh. Hoping they leave the Eurozone, the voters dont learn from past mistakes and keep voting for an overspending government. Hopefully the trojka keeps pressuring Greece, and Syriza better prepare for a possible default and a humanitarian crisis like never before if he doesn't copperate :MANiCURE:
Luc 4,776
Is this good or bad? how bad of a situation is Greece in at the moment? Greece could default in the next 6 months if neither the Eurozone nor Syriza cooperates. Syriza isn't in the position to make deals and change things so drastically, so it's basically between or the Eurozone gets what it wants or they give Greece a short payment to win time, or Greece defaults, leaves the Eurozone and it'll be worse there than it's in Venezuela right noe. If Syriza stays in the government there will probably be hyperinflation with the government trying to print away their debt.

So in most cases, the men works full time and u have the woman bring in a lil extra, thats fine But with US job creation the way it is, and many cases BOTH will have part-times. That stinks Greece could default in the next 6 months if neither the Eurozone nor Syriza cooperates. What Luc said. Plus, I am an owner operator, so I get paid per load, not per hour. The moral is, Greece is spending way beyond their revenue. So, like, uhm ... The moral is, Greece is spending way beyond their revenue. So, like, uhm ... I make good money , but not even close to a Rock Star type money. Basically.. Greece has never reached the goal of 3% debt deficit, even when their debt was still sustainable and they had economic growth. And that money didn't even all go to growth - it went to high pensions, many public services, high social security, a high amount of government officials, corruption and tax evasion. They had to suffer for 4 years for the profit they got for 12 years long, and now they want other countries to pay for the damage they did to their own country. And now they have to pay interest of like 8% of their gdp every year. And that with an extremely low interest rate.
