Slovakia to hold public vote on gay marriage

Slovakia's president Andrej Kiska yesterday announced the country will hold a referendum on same-s-x marriage on February 7th, 2015, reports ABC.

The announcement comes after the conservative group Alliance for Family gathered around 400,000 signatures supporting the vote.

Although Slovakia's constitutional court last month ruled that such a referendum does not violate the country’s constitution, it rejected a question on registered partnership as part of the vote.

U.S. anti-gay Christian legal organization Alliance Defending Freedom (a group whose efforts promoting bigotry abroad were profiled in the HRC's Export of Hate" report) lobbied the constitutional court in favor of the referendum.

The referendum will ask voters:

If they would like marriage to be defined as a union between a man and a woman.

If gay couples should be banned from adopting children.

If children should have to attend s-x education classes against parents’ wishes.

Slovakia has no civil partnership provision for same-s-x couples.  The country’s constitution was already changed earlier this year to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Acctually, let me bring some light into this, the referendum is BAD, it´s really bad cause it´s aimed against us all :( I get the feeling that we are going back to middle ages 

 

There is a strong church influence and the referendum is not about possible legalizing the marriage or registered partnership, but about restraining the rights of gay people here  :millie:

Yes, exactly, in other words, 6 milion Euros flying in the air for nothing But they need to get 50% attendance, so I really hope that it won´t be the case and this whole fiasco will be unsuccessful... If they won, it would mean that there is no chance of the situation here ever going in a right direction...
