The wealth gap in the US has now hit the highest level since the 1930s where the top 0.1% wealthiest (top 1 in 1000 people) own as much in assets as the bottom 90%

indebtedness of consumers, stagnant wages, and real-estate still yet to fully recover is partially to blame. The loss of manufacturing jobs in the past 20 years is also to blame

In the US the wealth gap started closing after the 1930s and reached its smallest gap in the late 1970s. Since the 19the wealth gap has begun to grow again

Stagnant wages are a HUGE problem here. Most people I know haven't gotten a substantial raise in a decade, despite the increased cost of living.

This is so disgusting. And yet the U.S. is called the "free world" and the "land of equal opportunity" and all that other scheisse. A bunch of lies. This country is the wealthiest country on the planet, boasts the highest profits and yet in terms of top 1% versus the bottom 60% is the most unequal country and has the largest wage gap in the entire Western, industrialized world.

Land of the corporations more like, with a government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.

It's been like that since after the Civil War when big industries started to boom tbh. Nothing has changed.

Yet the US has among the highest Corporate Tax rates in the developed world and has been increasing regulation yet the gap is growing

I still believe a free market can actually help equality because a strong wconomy helps the middle class

When the economy is weak the average person suffers the most

Well, this is the thing they mean with equal opportunities. Had somebody else done what Bill Gates did, that somebody would have 50 billion. There's nothing besides talent, motivation, intelligence and such that prevented somebody from doing the same he did, but a year earlier. You're not born in a farmer family and have to be one for the rest of your life, like in Nepal and India.

Actual factors beside skill that do unfortunately matter in the US is religion, race, s-xuality and gender. But that's something else, considering this white americans still make up for the largest part of this 90%.

Just a small calculation, the top 0.01% has at least 9000x as much money as the bottom 90%. If the average in the 90% owns $2000 (consider that many americans have a big debt or live with no spare money, bringing the average down a lot), the average 0.01% has about 18 million per citizen :omg:

the megarich are like vulptures, we must destroy them

material things dont' give you happiness

They mostly get their money from the 90% though. But you can make a small difference by buying everything from unknown, small companies if you want to.
