Arturo 40,746
Why does everything always boil down to sales with you people? Leigh Bowery probably sold thirty records out of the trunk of his friends car but he obviously had an enormous impact on Gaga's career. Sales aren't the end all and be all. There are many parallels between Gaga and Cyndi in both their art and personal life. Two Italian American New Yorkers who were victims of bullying as children, both s-xually abused by industry insiders, they both radically changed the way their peers dressed and behaved, and they both are willing to forego commercial success to follow their creative vision, and they are arguably the two most important LGBT activist pop music has ever seen. They are both primarily known as pied pipers of odd wads and homos-xuals. So I think it's pretty fair to compare them. ARTPOP: As sad as it is, people use the term "today's Cyndi Lauper" as an offensive phrase. Or in this forum's case, as a "drag". That's how I immediately interpreted the OP's definition of "today's Cyndi Lauper" since he didn't really elaborate. Even when putting sales aside I wouldn't really look at her as today's Cyndi Lauper, as I believe she will have a greater impact years from now than what Cyndi had years after her prime. That's just me though.

As a moderator you should probably add something constructive to the discourse rather then egging on the flame bait by saying "Cyndi Lauper's sales suck "

As a moderator you should probably add something constructive to the discourse rather then egging on the flame bait by saying "Cyndi Lauper's sales suck " 1. I don't moderate Gaga Thoughts so I don't have powers here. 2. I voiced my thoughts constructively. I didn't come here to say her sales suck. There was more to my post. 3. There wasn't any obvious flamebait. If I had powers here and would have closed it I guarantee you I would've gotten a PM saying "why was my thread closed? It wasn't offensive". If other users find it offensive they can utilize the report feature on his site. We don't just close things where the intentions are up for interpretation. Did I answer your questions or do you have more? :)
Sugarfall 3,723
Cyndi is a pop icon with timeless classics Girls Just Want To Have Fun is more iconic than any Madonna songs But most don't know the singer anymore, Madge is way better known. Rather then telling people to chill with immature bull****, you just encourage it by posting this: 2. "This. ARTPOP was more successful than half of Cyndi's discography. Even back then when sales didn't suck, her sales sucked :rip:" You only voiced your thoughts constructively after I called you out for being negative. Moderators need to be more mindful of what they post. Thats all. :)

llbcherry 591
Some of you... most of you... weren't alive during Cyndi's popular years. It would be hard to make a comparison (except just visually or musically) unless you personally saw the GPs reception to her work, experienced the social climate then, and witnessed her ambitions.... So....
Shadow 6,039
Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga. Nothing less and nothing more. I used to think she was similar to Madonna and other artists, but she is A Different Creature altogether. And Gaga is the best damn Gaga that ever was. She was right back in that Noisevox interview when she sprayed tanned herself into a bronze goddess, Gaga used a variety of different references I suspect many folks would have never heard of if it wasn't for her. Let us not staple another's image, music, or personality onto Gaga or anyone else for that matter. Silence those demons... . 🖤
