"It's Not Cool to Like Lady Gaga Anymore."

Why do a lot of people here think that people outside of this fan base think that it's uncool to like or listen to Gaga? I know that she may have underperformed this era, but that doesn't mean that people are embarrassed to listen to her. I mean, sure some people are, but some people are like that about female pop stars. Like, I know my guy friends always jam out to pop music with me, but they don't talk about it or say they like it around other people because it's associated with females and homos-xuals, just because a large portion of the pop girls' fan bases are made up of people from those groups. It's dumb, but that's the way some people are.

The reason I think those who think that are wrong is because of "Do What U Want." "Applause" was definitely bigger on the radio, but the real reaction I saw to 2013 Gaga was with the second single. I'm a college student, and I attend a large university with a lot of students. As a college student, I go to a lot of parties around campus, whether its a frat party, club party, or just going out to a club to dance with my friends. From October to around February or March, I did not go to a single party or club that didn't blast "Do What U Want" at full volume. Some of the frat parties even played it more than once (I think the most that I heard it was three times in one night). And everyone was singing all of the words and dancing. People who were sitting down would get up and dance when that song came on and go sit back down after it went off. That song was cool. It may not have gone #1, but everyone knew and liked that song. It was a success, and I truly think it'll be one of her memorable singles (I mean, I'm not talking like "Bad Romance" or "Poker Face" obviously, but it'll be remembered). Regardless of charts, people knew and liked "Do What U Want." I got to witness that first-hand among a s*** ton of college students.

My point in saying all of that is this: It's not uncool to like or listen to Lady Gaga. I know a lot of people in our fan base see it that way, and it sometimes feels like that after ARTPOP, but the truth is that people aren't ashamed or embarrassed to like Gaga. They just didn't like or connect with ARTPOP for whatever reason. Lady Gaga is not uncool. People will listen to her, like her, talk about her, and buy her music when they connect with it, whether it's connecting with the lyrics, the message, the beat, the production, or whatever. If Gaga puts out a single, and people feel it and connect with it like they did with any of her successful singles, it will do fine. No one will say "Oh God, I'm not listening to that. Lady Gaga's not cool anymore ever since she released that last album." If they like it, they're going to listen to it, talk about it, buy it, etc. So, I say all of this to tell you guys this: Lady Gaga is not uncool. It's just a matter of people connecting with her music.

Well outside of the fan base it kind of isn't. All the "cool" mainstream girls aren't listening to her music anymore. Sorry, but that's how it is. Sure you and I "know" she isn't "uncool" but that's not really our call to make considering we stan for her.

There's a diffeence between Monster's opinion and the GP opinion

Agreed.   :trootea:

EDIT: Some people are just shallow and judgmental still, but, whatever though, to each their own, I guess. I totally get the whole connecting with the music thing. I find it important too.

I mean people say it's not cool to listen to Taylor Swift and laugh about it so much, but homegirls on top of the world right now, so at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what some people say now does it ;)

Listen to whatever the F you want

Honestly, BTW made her the stereotypical gay activist. No I don't have "reciepts" but I've heard a lot of people say this. Unless you're gay or a girl, gaga isn't for you. I have a lot of straight friends who still bop to TF gaga, but don't acknowledge anything after telephone. And honestly I can't fault them cuz aside from great songs [literally teog and Scheiße are the only songs off btw that I like] gaga has self isolated herself to a certain type of listener. She lost her cool factor. Oh well.

Hopefully she'll get it back, but if not I'll remain unbothered and still stan for her

At my school people will make fun of you if you publicly like lady gaga, well I do. People know I see her in concert and love her, some people make comments, most don't care because they shouldn't, but you shouldn't go through life too embarrassed to be public about what you enjoy just because others think it's uncool.

I agree tbh, the only people who might be embarrassed to listen to her are insecure straight guys who think if they listen to her people might think they're gay.

I definitely agree with this. People are embarrassed to like gaga because of her being a gay icon and if you're straight and you like gaga people might think you're gay, because of it so that's why straights are no longer interested in gaga and she lost her cool factor like you said

The ignorance of it is all so real.

That's all it is, ignorance.

Beyonce, Madonna, Britney, Katy, Rihanna are all girls who at one time where gay icons but overcame it and remained cool. Gaga has it in her, like the OP mentioned. Everyone I knew loved DWUW. Let the next incredible song come and maybe her stigma will be gone

I think it started in 2012 really with a lot of people, here she had 5 of the most hidden scrobbles (plays or stations) for listeners on last.fm (out of the top 10). As mentioned it's just the nature of pop music for a lot of people, it's seen as a feminine genre I think in comparison to other music. I remember in middle school/mid-high school I avoided it like the plague; then I just didn't give a f**k at some point. I don't think people hate her though which is why people will still react and bounce along to her songs but not as many would run out and wear a shirt of hers or be as up front with liking her (fear of judgement which is why we see it as not 'cool' to like her in the GP's eyes). People just care what others think and the perception of what an artist represents.

But that's what I'm saying. That's not how it is. That's how it seems right now because people didn't connect with ARTPOP. But that doesn't make listening to Gaga uncool, like any of her previous stuff. People will listen to her when they like the music. They didn't like ARTPOP. She's not "uncool," she's just not anything right now because she's not doing anything in the pop world. Which is fine because she's doing phenomenal with Tony and Cheek to Cheek. When she releases something that people connect with, they're going to listen to it and talk about it. She may not be "cool" right now, but that doesn't mean she's "uncool." She just in the middle. She's not anything right now.

Jesse Pinkman

It's simple: Gaga doesn't market herself to the same market she did in TF days. DWUW was the first time in a long time that she attempted to market herself to straight males and it kinda worked. TEOG was another hit with the GP because she wasn't preaching about gays or wearing meat dresses, or messing with religion. She was simply letting the music speak for itself. Other than that she specifically targets her image to the gay male crowd, that's what makes her "not cool."

It's science, bitch

Paper Planes

Liking Lady Gaga has never been cool by any stretch of the imagination; that's what made her allure so large for many "outcasts" or "freaks" or whatever. The Monster Ball showed her side of craziness without getting too out-of-control, but then Born This Way drove her straight into the ground in terms of the general public. Then the whole "**** YOU POP MUSIC THIS ARTPOP AND ALSO BE NICE TO EVERYONE AND PUKE ON ME YAS SLAY ME UGH" shtick drove her farther into the ground. People like her music, but they're over every other aspect of her.

delete it fat

What, those people 99% are just bandwagoner anyway.

I pity the people who follow trends than enjoying the music tho.
