Taylor Swift's label EXPOSES Spotify

Okay, these replies....  :scar:

First of all, the actual artist behind an album only sees pennies (if they're lucky) from an album sell, the money spent on buying an album goes directly towards the funding spent on the album, the upcoming tour, the wages of those who worked on it, the label, resources... the list goes on and on so can we stop pretending that this money would have gone directly to Taylor when in reality, it would not have.

Secondly, the album comes with physical gifts. It has a packet of polaroids and a great album booklet, could you think that Taylor might perhaps want her artistic vision actually delivered to those who want the album?

Thirdly, this an expose on Spotify, they've just been proved to LIE yet we're pretending that Taylor's team are the ones in the wrong?0

Fourthly, if this was Gaga, none of you would be saying this. Your fumes are pointless.

and finally, just to clarify my first point with a little information. Remember Gaga revealing that she went bankrupt making The Fame Monster and it was the actual tour that made her money back? Artists lose money by making albums so why would her and her team not want their investment to actually mean something?

You all try far too hard.  :smh:

Well... I don't know. If we were talking about an underground singer who is waiting for her first check so she can pay college, I think that's totally understandable. When you are being paid literally MILLIONS and you still think you could get more, then that's just greediness.

She has the right to do this. However, I've always thought that the music industry is very hypocrite. The entertainment industry keeps complaining about piracy, yet they keep setting ridiculous prices for their products.

Streaming is the way that things are going. There's no way around it. People want what they want right at the moment that they want it. Spotify, Netflix, on-demand TV, whatever, it's the direction that things are heading. Can't stop it.

And as someone said earlier, it's not about saving the smaller artists. I am sure those artists are really glad that people can easily access their music, so they can play bigger gigs or festivals, and maybe get noticed and signed.

What I think is funny though, and that I've seen people on this forum go on about, is how Spotify is so bad because you can only listen to playlists, and there's ads and it doesn't give any money to the artists... well, THEN PAY FOR IT. IT'S CHEAP. Endless music and you're helping to contribute in the direction that music is inevitably heading.

I never payed for a single song or album in my whole life. I pirated. But then Spotify came, and I immediately jumped aboard and paid monthly. Since then, I've started buying albums and singles that I like.

But I do agree that Spotify can hurt album sales of the larger artists... but there's an easy solution to that, imo. Either restrict new albums to paying users, or just delay the release a few weeks. Now, there, Taylor can stop crying about not breaking the album sales record. Buhu.

But really, Spotify is such a small factor in the big picture. YouTube, Pandora, Soundcloud, Rdio, Grooveshark, Google Play, Last.fm, WiMP. The loss of sales is not because of Spotify. It's because the industry is changing. Live with it.

(First post from longtime lurker, btw. Hi.)

Welcome, and great first post!

You always say this, but it simply isn't true. Gaga gets attacked on this site for riding a bike, she gets attacked in a thread where some other artists talked **** about her and her fans. People here would come at her full force for this same move and the media would crucify her!

Always?  :awkney:

But i said this once, and i will say it again to you. Stop overreacting and chill. No matter what anyone has to say about Gaga, you always just see the negative aspect of it and start attacking people. If people don't like something they have the right to express it, it doesn't mean that they hate Gaga...

You brought the negative into it in the first place, with bringing in Gaga and her fans in a thread that wasn't discussing either. Instead of just discussing the subject of the thread, you decided to spin it towards Gaga and the fans.

You have every right to express an opinion and I have every right to respond to your opinion. That's how it works.

Streaming will not stop, this Taylor vs Spotify is getting tired.

Spotify will be here and sales will continue to fall, the end, let's get over it.

I put about as much faith in the "objective", "statistical" "accounting" that a record label CEO gives as with what the CEO of Spotify says. Which is somewhere around zero and nothing.

You can always twist numbers; even more easily when the numbers are large. This is just word against word. There's nothing in his statement that actually shows that Spotify lied, and there's nothing in the Spotify announcement to say they are truthful.

I'd rather focus on a discussion that can be had, rather than one that is (currently) completely factless.

Then tell me how many times i have said that?

You should perhaps learn how to read more thoroughly, because my statement wasn't against Gaga at all, it was against some people in here, who are always b---hing about every other artist, but when it come to their favorites they start crying everytime someone has to say anything about them.

*sigh*

It doesn't matter that she makes a lot of money already. If she's not being paid fairly for her work (which mind you, doesn't 100% go to taylor, but mostly her team of not famous people helping behind the scenes), then she deserves the proper payment. I'm not even a taylor swift fan and I'm agreeing with her. It doesn't make her greedy, it shows that she knows the value of her art.

And if this was gaga, you would all be defending her and attacking the people mocking her and calling her 'greedy'. So all of you can kindly take a seat.

There is nothing wrong with her wanting to make more money.

I would want people to buy my physical cd or iTunes cd over streaming it too.

The hate she is getting for this is ridiculous.

it's 500,000 split up between every single person who had a hand in making the album though.

Oh well. They're not getting my money either way.

Yall are doing the absolute most. Thisis reidiculous. No matter what she works for and how much moneys he gets, SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO GET THE MONEY SHE'S WORKING FOR.

It is STUPID to think otherwise, and I'm not talking like that just for her.. Everyone who works deserves to get their money back, no matter how rich or how much their selling.

This :lmao: Yall sayin she's greedy because she makes a lot. It's her job. Just because she makes a lot more than the average person means that she HAS to lose a lot of money from her job or else she'll seem greedy? She's SUPPOSED to get more. Ridiculous
