Why other pop artists are still hugely popular, but not Gaga.

True. But I think there is more of the basic then the non basic stuff. Artists should be more creative to make the music industry more interesting.

remember artists dont necessairily do everything they want. Record labels are ultimately in control. They wont invest and promote just anyone, and providing what the GP demands is the safest bet to making back the money u spend

Gaga was huge and had more power to bargain. With many artists it might be "our way or the highway". they may not have a choice as to what to release

And labels are ultimately a business whos job is to make money, they arent a charity. Artistry like Gaga is very risky. They will never promote too many artists like that at once

Yes that's what I am saying. It was successful but not the most successful.Btw you forgot albums like Pure Heroine and Bangerz

Bangerz sold the same as ARTPOP and Miley was everywhere. This was her TFM era, so to speak.

I'm sorry but Meghan Trainor's All About That Bass song isn't basic, and has a meaning behind it, and still made it to #1, even tho the singer wasn't famous before at all.

Enjoy the song and stop the argue.

using 50s sounds does not make it original. this is my most hated song of the year

I feel like a lot of why she declined is because ARTPOP just didn't live up to its hype and ideas. It really could have been so much more with all the videos and the singles she wanted, but it wasn't and we see now why that is. I believe her next album will be something much better visually and ideally will have better execution of ideas.

truth. they hear from a label exec "this is what will put u on top and make u XX amt of money" n they go "lets do it!!" gaga is more like "no **** that, its not art." lol n does what she believes in, kinda separates a "performer" from an "artist "

Well, I attend a class of pop culture this semester and we discussed Gaga and Beyoncé at one lesson... the point was, that Beyoncé keeps her oppinions to herself and tries to appeal to all kinds of people, younger, older, men, women, white, black etc. while Gaga is very outspoken about her views, which is a good thing, but on the other hand she appeals only to a selected group of people this way

However, Gaga being diverse is what will give her longevity in the long run....people like you mentioned are all stuck in a box and are industry puppets who let others control their careers so as not to "sacrifice" their popularity and relevancy.

Simple as that.....

I have friends who still play Just Dance and Bad Romance, but pay absolute dust to her recent music. People don't hate Gaga, they just don't like what she has produced beyond BTW.

This is exactly how she is treated by all the local radio stations I listen to.

A couple of my Hot AC presets still play Applause once in a while (and I always tweet them a thanks afterwards). The AC stations only play Paparazzi, The Edge of Glory, and Bad Romance, plus the occasional Just Dance and Poker Face, and all very rarely at that. I'm lucky if I hear more than one Gaga song on the radio per week (I heard Just Dance this morning, that's one so far :P). The other Hot AC and all of the Top 40 stations around here save for one don't have any Gaga in their playlist anymore old or new, judging by their request pages. I only heard DWUW on one station since release (as part of an AC station's "party pop" Saturday night block), and have never heard GUY even once.

Many of my local AC stations never bothered to get Applause even when it was new, yet they still play Roar, Dark Horse (minus Juicy J), and even Blurred Lines (hacked to bits depending on the station) daily. I also still hear Avicii's Wake Me Up nearly every day even though it's been out for well over a year now. Nearly everything post-TFM gets dropped by stations around here a few months after release and they don't play them anymore even if you request. :(

The higher the peak, the lower the fall

1) Bruno Mars isnt as popular as anyone else in that list

2)She was famous for being weird at first and now thats she is no longer *Fresh!* people dont care about her

Trying to defend Enigma a little bit by focusing to his question

I was going to say that about Bruno Mars, but I don't think it was his point, just an example...

The question is what keeps her no longer "fresh" while still making art and new music, instead of for example Kat Perrur

One it's because she got too popular too quick and the other is that she simply has not made ANY commercial music on either BTW or AP - I stand by this very firmly there is nothing commercial enough to appease the general public widely on either of those 2 albums and I think she needs to find that perfect balance she had in TFM of songs that both please the fans but are commercial enough to send to radio and have it be successful

I wouldn't say that it's basic, because it does have a good message and confronts the issue of body image (which is a big problem for people), but the song really isn't that complex or profound.  It pretty much does what it says on the tin and you don't have to think about it.  The message is also very much in the zeitgeist right now (booty and curves are good) and doesn't really push boundaries.
