What do you like about 1989? :reductive:

I hope you don't mind about me replying to you.

So here it is: I love 1989 because it's still very "Taylor". Yes, it's pop. Yes, it's very different from what she's done before. But it's not too unlike her. Some songs have very beautiful lyrics (OOTW, This Love, You Are In Love, I Know Places, to name a few). I was afraid I wouldn't like the album, given the pop direction she's taken, but I really love it. She has said a lot of things about this album but I only focus on the music to truly appreciate an album, and I like how it's full of surprises (New Romantics is so different from her usual style I actually thought it wasn't her song at first...).

I can understand why people don't like it though, fan or not. It's all a matter of opinion and taste. I personally think she hasn't topped Speak Now (my favorite Taylor album), but I still love 1989 like crazy.

I respect this post so much. For the most part, all I have seen from people on this site is comments on 1989's commercial success. It's nice to hear that someone actually enjoys the music and not just the success.

Thanks !!

I'm a music lover first and foremost. I never go on the charts part of this forum, and I couldn't care less if an album is a commercial failure, as long as I like it !

I really do like a lot of Taylor's past work, starting with her debut all the way up to RED, but 1989 is huge turn off for me. I'm happy for you and everyone else who enjoys the new album.

I just wish the focus in general on this site was more on the music and less on the "bling". I find it to be disrespectful to the art, but maybe I'm just expecting too much from this site at times. :flop:

You're sooooo right. It's sad that people give so much importance to the sales. Music is so much more than that.

I feel like the focus on sales and chart success that runs rampant on not only this site, but online in general, is the cause of much negativity between people when discussing music. I want to try to change that, but I don't know how and sometimes it frustrates me to the point I come across as rude/am rude. :cryga:

Haha I know what you mean. I try not to pay attention to all this but it's tough because I always want to defend music. And I know that if I do say something, I'll be rude as well ! So I say tons of rude things at loud in front of my computer screen haha.

You can't exactly blame people for being partially focused on sales this time around. Her opening sales this time around carry a lot of weight

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

I think she will break Britney's record.

The music industry is dead, my ass.

Fiona Apple

But Taylor has always been on top though. She hasn't been everywhere for months because she's promoting the album now, but she has had 3 incredibly successful album cycles and sell out tours. All of this to rave reviews. So she has always been on top, just not on the spotlight

I know that dude..She was always really successful but she was never the #1 artist, the most successful, the most famous..

I absolutely LOVE the album for the music and can not stop listening to it! I've had it on replay 24/7 since the release. I think it was a logical progression for her from country to country-pop and now pop. It's still very much Taylor. I've been a fan of hers since Speak Now and have gone to both of her last tours, she's great.

The commercial success of her albums/singles is just a mere bonus to me
