CHANTEL 2
The minute Taylor Swift is too old to sell music to teenage girls will be the minute she no longer gets these big numbers. By then she'll be considered a legend and will be selling with good numbers for her albums ust like Barbra streisand's doing right now I mean....if ARTPOP had come out early summer 2013....it would have sold a million copies week one. LORD GAGA 1,271
By then she'll be considered a legend and will be selling with good numbers for her albums ust like Barbra streisand's doing right now Mark my words... 'Taylor Swift' will in no way, ever be considered a 'Legend' not in any genre of music, i have nothing against her and hope she does well and has a long career... but that is just delusional. Wait until her hype dies off a bit in the coming weeks. And to put things into perspective, ARTPOP could easily have surpassed 1 million had it been released during summer 2013. There is no point or logic in shading an artist who this forum is dedicated to, simply to protect Taylor Swift... you can like both without making fun of either of them. Yeah, longevity is very important if you care about the general public. But when it comes down to success, the fans are the people who account for 98% of that. They are the ones who buy the album when it comes out, buy tickets to the show when they go on sale. Even if 1989 has no longevity that just means, her entire fan base was so ready for a new album that they bought it during the first week. The general public are what will sustain a career, longevity with the GP is VITAL, fans only get you so far in the industry, and trust me they account for VERY LITTLE of the overall sales of albums/singles and even concerts, this applies to the majority of artists, including Taylor Swift. Cher 15
I dont get why people are dissing Taylor's longevity and relationship with the GP? Her past two albums have both debuted with over a million copies sold and this one looks like it'll do the same. Literally what other artist can debut with over a million in this day and age without having any cheap tricks (like discounted album prices)???? I'm not making fun of Gaga, but that's just how it is. Gaga has in no whatsoever way the power to sell a million copies within the first week especially after BTW. BTW was very dark etc. so it put people off after they bought the album, not to mention she lost the hype concerning her. The music on ARTPOP isn't even that good for her to attract a million people to buy the album. AGAIN I didn;t make fun of gaga, I made fun of a delusuonal comment. [Mods better not warn me this time, saying AP could have sold 1m IS delusional]
RAMROD 104,555
See, lots of Monsters need to learn from Swifties on how to support their faves. By that, I was meant to say stop being cheap and start buying Gaga CDs each time she releases something. [Mods better not warn me this time, saying AP could have sold 1m IS delusional] I think we need to stop being so dramatic and surmising 'if' all the time... it's just as possible for ARTPOP to have sold a million as the possibility that it couldn't, it's all down to marketing in the end.ARTPOP selling 1 million copies 'is delusional' IN YOUR OPINION. Just like this soon to be short lived hype surrounding taylor swift at the moment is delusional is MY OPINION. its not factual therefore i do not present it as fact, and neither should you. Let me put the two artists into perspective: Taylor Swift - Public sweetheart, adored by many young fans, has enjoyable music, and moderate signing ability, plays it safe, and is generally likeable. As for taylor's global presence... in various countries she's almost non existent media and chart wise... for example i live in the UK and we usually only hear of album releases and maybe the first single if we're lucky... then she disappears again but still releases singles, which only chart in the US. Lady Gaga - A force of pop culture, usually goes against the grain, highly memorable, iconic in her own right, and renowned the world over for her singing ability but also her signature 'gaga' style. she is the 'whole package' and there is nothing remotely 'safe' about her, Lady Gaga is a globally recognised, and globally successful artist, which is not something that is comparable to taylor swift. so yes gaga has made mistakes... so has taylor no doubt... but we'll see soon enough what happens, but imo Taylor's new album will have a similar pattern to Beyonce's last album, big hype followed by fans proclaiming she's the new messiah, followed by depressing disappointment and under performing singles, follow by fans now going silent, or bypassing the subject all together. So as i said before, nothing against taylor, want her and her album to do well, and i hope she does.

At this point I'm pretty sure Taylor doesn't even need longevity, her album can already classed as a huge success AND again, You still don;t explain why you think AP could have sold 1m. HOW? it's not all just because of Marketing, it's also the music, the performances etc. all of which have been lackluster during AP.
Danny Boy 0
The bashing on Taylor ain't cute. Her last two albums have debuted with over 1 million sales in the first week alone and this next one is probably going to do the exact same, how on earth are you still hating on that fact? That is evidently an accomplishment in the music industry today. To say her fan base is only teenage girls is so inaccurate. I'm not a teenage girl and I bought 2 copies of the album yesterday... The girl writes her own music, sings live, plays instruments, what more do you ****ing want? Just because it isn't Lady Gaga accomplishing this, you feel the need to be bitter about it. Pathetic. HOW? it's not all just because of Marketing, it's also the music, the performances etc. all of which have been lackluster during AP. I completely lost it after this... that's like saying 'at this point i don't think gaga needs longevity, she's been so successful up until now she's a success.' that is completely stupid. You could say exactly the same thing about Beyonce's last album? but looking back at it now... was it a huge success? definitely not... did we think it was at the time? HELL YES!!!!!! Did we thing she needed longvity at the time? HELL NO!!!!! Do we think she needs it now? Of course we do lmao... ARTPOP is a lot more experimental and exciting (in terms of sound) than any album taylor has released... Taylor swift in terms of singing, love performance and artistic integrity are all and have always been 'lack lustre' but that's part of her image, she isn't supposed to be a 'pop diva' she isn't supposed to be 'crazy gaga' she is a pop sweetheart. Why so dramatic Don't take things so seriously, there's gonna be people that love her, hate or or just don't care... as long as you enjoy it who cares? i use the same principle when it comes to gaga :)

There is no need for hate, Gaga has stated that MANY times but people on this forum continue to be bitter about everything.

Paper Gangsta 6,693
but the argument isn;t even about your taste it's about her being the #1 pop girl as in Impact on the world which is basically a fact. Not your taste. Just because she has #1 record with huge sales doesn't mean she is impactfull
DeleteMyAccount 11,881
I'm not really surprised because of all of the promo. However I think Red is much better. Hoping 1989 grows on me.
