Guest
I think I read once that the acts who perform at the Superbowl have a contract where it's stated that they can't perform anywhere in the US for the 2 months prior to the event or something like that. Since Rihanna is rumored to have a single/album coming out soon, she might want to focus on promoting somewhere else. idk about Gaga.
Pain of fame1 229
I think more men listen to Rihanna than Katy Perry truth. I MEAN KATY PERRY WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE OF HER PAYOLA
Slojo 51
Because the performance only lasts 12 minutes and Gaga will spend 10 of them telling everyone how much she love them :)
StrawberryBlond 14,880
I can't help thinking it's because she's really waning in popularity now and the NFL wanted to use her at some point, so now would be the best time, before her career's completely over and it won't make any sense having her perform when she's irrelevant. Let's be real here - Prism is nowhere near the massive hit that Capitol invisaged. It truly is Katy's BTW: it started out with a monster of a lead single that kicked the era off with a bang, a sophomore flop (although for Gaga, Judas was a very decent top ten), a comeback of a third single, followed by two mega flops. The only difference is that Interscope knew when to quit and stopped after the second consecutive flop whereas Capitol are set to milk Prism for a further two singles and a possible re-release despite the public having had enough of it. The tour's only really successful because it's momentum from her last hit era and this time, she's going to a lot more territories. Prism mirrors BTW in so many ways. And we all know what happened to Gaga after BTW...Katy needs to be successful with the public or else she has nothing - her fans alone can't allow her to get by like Gaga's can. The NFL is a last ditch attempt to get her back into the public's hearts and keep the album's success going seeing as she's finished her US leg and won't be around there for a while. I really don't think this performance will do her career any favours or win her any new fans or any more support from radio. I think her next album's going to be a big comedown to earth and she and everyone around her know it. She's almost 30, her music style is bland and dated now and she wants to go in a more acoustic direction from here on out. Basically, if she doesn't do the Superbowl now, there'll never be another chance for her.
Jed 7,716
Because she is a singles artist. She has had many popular singles that people can easily identify. She plays things safe, and she only makes songs that are mainstream and radio-friendly... Those aren't the best traits to have if you're trying to be an artist, but if you're trying to make a lot of money and perform on the superbowl that's the kind of thing that helps. Also, I don't think Gaga was in the running to even perform this year. I don't think she is on the minds of many people anymore.
nikola 4,342
She paid for it,also she is safe and family firenldy.they dont wanna some sh*t happening during halftime perfomance since its going live(exp.janet, and mia's middle fingger that happened during madonnas half time show...) so katy perry is most safe artist because she wll most probably make show that looks like sweat 16 birthday party(i mean have you seen her tour).#nohate I've got an "F" and a "C" and I got a "K" too And the only thing that is missing is a bitch like "U"
PopBitch 1,218
She is successful, safe, family-friendly, relatable But the real questions is why Katy Perry or another pop girl? I don't think football fans want any of pop artists. I agree with Wendy that they would prefer Rolling Stones, or even more so some huge country singer (this is Murica). Imagine who a typical fan of football is. I imagine a conservative couple in their 40's-50's. They don't want none of those pop girls. I so agree. Football is majority young guys, young men, men, older men, with women also watching but not the majority. They want bands. They don't want pop girls.every year in a row. It's been four years since a band. They should have had on Arcade Fire as far as I'm concerned, one of the best live acts around.
boyerased 2,886
I don't get why they had pop acts do it since 2011. I mean football fans could sure use some rock bands or whatsoever. Coldplay would be a better choice tbh but they're shows doesn't transcend well on televisions than in live. Katy is pretty visual and she is a safe choice. Rihanna is fine but idk why they hadn't chose her knowing more men prefer her over katy. I believe katy payed tho. AFAIK Gaga was for 2012 but Madonna was chosen instead. LittleBoot 27
Because right now, as far as the general viewing demographic goes, Katy is more on the radar than Ri or Gaga and has had more hits in the past year than either of them. I think Gaga's probably a bit too "wierd" for the Superbowl crowd, Ri is pretty edgy. If any pop girl would have been next in line for the Superbowl (though they will probably mix it up with rock/soul for a couple of cycles), it would have been Taylor Swift. If her album had come out last year she would have been a shoo-in if she was up for it and I wouldn't be surprised to see her there at some point. I'm not really into her music but she's another one that NFL execs would love.
