Let me go ahead and predict how this thread is going to go:

"YAY RELIGION"

"But here are all the bad things these religious people are doing."

"BUT *I* PERSONALLY DON'T FEEL THAT WAY, SO IT'S OK. YAY RELIGION."

"It doesn't matter. The people you are upholding feel that way, so your support of them indicates that you condone their actions."

"BUT RELIGION. YAY RELIGION."

"You're letting your religious preferences sway your opinion on the issue even though you're not entirely understanding the complexities and implications..."

"[pretends not to understand] ... RELIGION!"

That's not as nice as some of you think actually :awkney:

"If Silva makes it to the second round and defeats incumbent Dilma Rousseff in an expected Oct. 26 runoff, she would become the first Pentecostal leader of a country with more Catholics than any other."

Aaaaaaaaand she didn't.

why

Besides pastors in Brazil getting money from the people that go to their church (That are already mainly from a lower class) from promising that God will give them a better life, and then using it to buy things for them, their values are extremely radical, homophobic and ignorant. It'd push Brazil back from the progress that was happening and push it into a state of Pentecostal/Catholic supremacy, which as a laic country, is unacceptable imo.

lol yup

but don't you realise that these pentecostals are anti-gay? so why would it be good? because you simply want your religion to dominate no matter how different their views are to yours? or maybe these are secretly your views too? because any religion is better than no religion, and your religion is better than all the others no matter what values they hold? that's totally irrational. and dangerous.

idk how pentecostal/evangelic church is in your country, so I can't argue about that, but apart from Marina, which was not as extreme about religion, most of the candidates that had big ties with religion, including one of the presidential candidates (Pastor Everaldo), were very uneducated about politics overall and treated religion as the main subject. If this goes on and more of them win elections they will just favor the elite (That they are actually part of) and do little for the country itself, besides increasing the power of Christianity in it.
