Supreme Court ruling allows gay marriage in 5 more states

Aah okay, they clearly don't know then   :witchderp:

And how does this thread not have more posts, more than 1 page? Like this day is both HISTORIC and sweeping for marriage equality and  has a variety of implications. It's surprising how a community such as this isn't discussing this more, seeing as how important it is to most of us. Most of them must be clueless or uninformed about this, something idk :ghostney:

Quite frankly I wondered the same thing. Queer folks need to be active in discussing this in every medium. Even though a lot of the people on this site are young I hope they appreciate the direction this country is going in.

Maybe if I entitled the thread "KATY PERRY AND MADONNA BOTH DISS GAGA (oh and five more states are going to have gay marriage)" I would have a lot more posts.

Someone else posted this (and it bumped me off the recent posts) and a ton of people commented.  :duck:

You raise a valid point. I feel like it must be the community. I mean it's obviously unrepresentative both in terms of queer folk and Gaga fans, but it seems people on this site (many but not all) care more about drama and shade than any worthwhile topic that is worth discussing.

Perhaps if you had put "Supreme Court shades conservatives, allows gay marriage in more states" more replies would have been posted. Anything with the words "shade" "katy" or "madge" become hit threads just for using the word in the thread title.  :katy:  :witchney:

The effect of the Supreme Court ruling has spread faster than I thought :omg: 30 out of 50 states now :legend:

The lower court rulings will now go into effect for all same-s-x marriage cases, meaning same-s-x marriage is now or will shortly be legal in Utah, Oklahoma, Virgina, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

In addition, same-s-x marriage will become legal in eleven more states, by virtue of them being in federal circuit court regions.

"Other states under the jurisdiction of appeals courts that struck down the bans will also be affected, meaning the number of states with gay marriage is likely to quickly jump from 19 to 30," Reuters reports. "The other states would be North Carolina, West Virginia, South Carolina, Wyoming, Kansas and Colorado."

So it's 11 states, not just 5.

Now it's up to rest of the circuit courts to approve it. If one goes against gay marriage, the Supremes will have to get involved. But it's messy to rescind gay marriage rights once many people have used them.
